The upcoming presentations by airline executives in New York will not
only address the industry and the individual airlines but renew the
push for consolidation.

Would not be surprised if Delta starts things rolling with a bid for Northwest.
United and US Airways next. With American and Continental combining to make
the "Big Three " from these six.

They need to do these deals while they still have about one year remaining of
the current administration's term in office. Oil is still volatile and will remain so
and foreign carriers are consolidating.

When Parker made his bid for Delta they had provisions for settling with labor,
especially the Pilot's group and I'm sure this time would be no exception. There
will be plenty of money to grease all the wheels , both in the industry, Wall Street, and
on Capital Hill.

With a United deal the West money loser can be removed.

US Airways contributes to slow LV air travel:

For the year, traffic is up more than 4 percent to 40.2 million through October

The biggest drag on the airport's numbers came courtesy of US Airways. That airline carried fewer than 700,000 passengers to and from Las Vegas, compared to nearly 900,000 in October of 2006.

"In September the airline posted a 16 percent decline to and from Las Vegas after it cut the number of seats serving the market from about 254,000 to 211,000." according to the article.

Isn't this a good thing since LAS ,I assume, is a low yield market?

I totally agree with you

DALLAS - Several major U.S. airlines outlined plans Tuesday to slow their growth and cut costs to deal with higher fuel prices and the prospect of an economic slowdown that could hurt air travel.

Executives for some carriers also said they are actively planning for airline mergers, although they were careful not to discuss specific combinations.

"We are not standing around waiting for consolidation to happen. We're interested in that," said Jake Brace, the chief financial officer of United Airlines.

Wow. With Nicolau, where would that leave you? On furlough yet again??

When do you think you will be able to cash in on that lottery ticket? I thought you Westoffs said we in the East were going to be spanked by Prater and Parker. What happened to Mr. Spanky? the idiot who knew all? LOA93 suits me fine.

I would guess a UAL deal would result in more divestitures on the east side than the west. Like maybe The Shuttle and slots and gates at DCA & LGA. With a hub at IAD the chances are PHL would be the loser.

But it's a moot point since the UAL pilots will never let it happen. The hand that controls the parking break can accomplish a lot.

Don't forget FL, WN or B6. I would not be suprised if two out of those three are involved in some way in the mergers. Remember when US approached DL that WN stated they would be willing to buy any assets needed to be sold offin order to pass regulatory approval.

what type of engines does B6 use in their airbuses as compared to US? just wondering

Also there are other smaller regionals like F9, AS and SY. Personally I think SY would fit in good with AS routewise, it would also give them small hub in MSP which would fit in good with SEA, PDX and ANC and more routes to Mexico and the Carribean.

It is a place frequent fliers use their free trips to go to.

Just who do you think would survive this merger, PHX or DEN? True, IAD would end our H#$$ we call PHL. And don't be too sure UAL pilots would end this combo, money talks. 🙄 😉

I don't think United and US airways will attempt to merge United is after international routs . If they were to join up I don't think Den would be gone it would probably be PHX mostly because of its proximity to LAX . DEN and phx are about 750 miles away.

I am sitting in LAS waiting for a redeye for about 4 hours. It's scarry how dead this place it is. (even with a reduced Tues Sked)

Jetblue uses IAE's on their airbus.
