Monkey business in Philly?

I think maybe it is just mtc not being given enough time to accomplish the job. Earlier this year in PHX I got some 757's with windows closed but not locked, engine hydro pumps selected off, pressurization in manual, etc. Mtc used to have a checklist which years ago would have been called the origination checklist for the pilots. It was rare to find anything out or place, perhaps a return to the old days in this case would be a good thing.

Hopefully, there was no malicious intent, Bob.

I think that is a bit of a stretch Hawk, there is no reason for anyone in the departments you mentioned to do anything of the sort.

Prbably is wings. It's just that I've heard it over and over.

This thread says it all. I'v been an employee in this industry for well over 30 years. When I was hired it was one of the most respected careers you could enter. Customer service, ramp, catering, fuelers, cleaners, etc. all earned a solid middle class income. Maintenance employees received upper middle class wages and pilots, after years of training & thousands of dollars spent could justify the effort. Every single employee was proud to be in the industry and their work and attitude reflected it. Pilots, agents and mechanics hung out together after hours. It was family ..... Wow, have we ever lower every bar over the past 15 years.

Some very good points. I'll add deregultion in 1978, the year I started flying as the beginning of the end of the glory days of the airline industry, followed by Eastern, Pan Am's troubles in the late 80's. It's not the same industry my father worked. They are trying to do the same job with less people. I think of the overworked agent that has to work multiple flights.

As for the tread, you can look at it as, psst, hey there are some suspicion that there is monkey business going on, it could be nothing but be careful before someone has to do the carpet dance. Since there is a heightened state of alert and it's being discussed, a mechanic opening a side window to clean the windshield but not completely closed could be seen as something else.

Heads up.

The mechanics don't clean the windows, that's the cleaners. Take your beef up with them. When was the last time you went to fly without checking the window? Seems like a non issue if it's something you normally check.

It's not in my job description but I do it. You obviously missed the whole point. Should I provide you with another example or should I draw you a picture?

The point to put blame on a workgroup because a crew had a bad day? No, I got it.. And good on you for making sure your window is closed/locked even though it's not in your job description.

Fair enough, it is a part of our flow to make sure the window is closed and I realize that mechanics are highly skilled and not window cleaners. I'm not the one who had this experience in Philly but if you encounter a surly crew, it may add up after reading the story becuse it is all over our message boards.

I guess those surly crews should remember the golden rule..
