More Timco Tales

I guess the RTV or SUPERGLUE that the UNLICENSED  mechanics used at TIMCO  wasn't allowed enough time to dry. 😛

The wonderful world of MRO contract maintenance!
But hey,UAL is saving money and 1 less panel did make the aircraft a few pounds lighter.

I wonder how many pictures UniTED has on file of all the screw-ups their own mechanics made??? I can remember working at LAX the mechanics that towed a DC-10 into the maintenance area over hang caving in the cockpit. Or the one were the mechanics didn't latch the cowls on and A-320, what a mess that was. Or the mechanics that installed a set of 757 main wheel bearings on a main of a 737 that took the axle off and the tire departed the airplane.

Human factors are OUR own worst enemy no matter who you work for PERIOD!

The panel is one thing but if you look at first two pictures, it is obvious that they pencil whipped the ever apparent corroded nutplates. Next picture shows the lack of new sealant on the panels removed. It may be cheap at TIMCO but the quality you're getting is in the pictures. But hey, it's cost effective.

Mr. Fish, the problem is that there are good mechanics at MRO facilities but where's the loyalty and pride? They may work on 20 differnet customer aircraft but there's nothing like YOUR company aircraft being returned to service.

When you're in your own hangar working on your own company's fleet, there's a difference than that mechanic who just sees a 757 or 767 and not the LOGO.

Hopeful says "When you're in your own hangar working on your own company's fleet, there's a difference than that mechanic who just sees a 757 or 767 and not the LOGO."

Tell that to the families who's loved ones died over the Pacific when the cargo door ripped of UniTED's 747 that had been signed many times by their own mechanics.

Or the families who lost loved ones in Iowa that faitful day from a crack that should have been found long before it happened.

Remember that many of your furloughed brothers from UniTED are working at many of the MRO's.

Human factors are OUR own worst enemy no matter who you work for PERIOD!

Imagine what would have happened if this was a 727 or MD-80. That panel would have taken an engine out. This is only a foretaste of what is going to happen in the future. People are going to die because of the UNLICENSED HACKS that work at these MRO "chop shops". When I worked at DALFORT, the IBT allowed contractors to be hired when the work load was heavy. Many of these UNLICENSED contractors from STS,CDI,SALEM,AIRPLANES,etc. were the bottom of the barrel lowlifes who had no concern about safety or quality. All they cared about was if they would have enough money to buy some booze, drugs,or a hooker when they finished their contract. We had contractors come in who only wanted some gas money to travel to their next job. Do people really want these types of people to be working on airliners?!

PK,

I know licensed A&P mechanicsand MANY who think they are R&E's that are HACKS to!!!! I don't support the MRO's for even hiring un-licensed mechanics, but every company has their share of HACKS!!!!

PK,

By the way I worked at DALFORT in the R&E department and WE policed that department and got rid of TECH'S (contractors) within hours if they showed that they didn't know what they were doing.

MrFish,

Even though your diatribe has attempted to place blame on the good name of the mechanics, I believe that the NTSB and FAA would disagree with your monologue.

You run your mouth and not provide substance to your remarks.

Add supporting data to support your position or be gone.

Emil,

The report on the 747 and DC-10 were shown to be maintenance blunders at UniTED, documented by the FAA and NTSB! I worked at UniTED and there were many mechanics there that carried the stigma of being hacks.

I knew one R&E in LA that worked as a CSA and went and took the FCC exam and the next thing you know UniTED hired him as an R&E. He didn't know anything about avionics or electronics, and in the two years that I worked in LA he NEVER could finish a job on his own. And you know what? With his seniority he is STILL working in LA probably!

Human factors are OUR own worst enemy no matter who you work for PERIOD!

Let's change direction here!

How about the foreign repair stations in Mexico, Central AMerica, South AMerica, Asia, etc?

No United brothers working there, are there Mr. Fish?

Have you once thought of the security factors at these foreign repair stations.

Do you think they have been fingerprinted, background checked?

Who are the foreigners working the aircraft?

What are there qualifications?

Do they really care about repairing a UNITED aircraft?

EMIL,

Check out NTSB Report AAR-92/02: Contributing factor to the lose of the cargo was lack of maintenance and inpection by UniTED Airlines. There is some fault on the part of Boeing and the FAA to address this issue which happened on another aircraft. But ultimetly the saftey of your PAX'S is on the shoulders of UniTED maintenance.

I certainly have...it's just a matter of time before there's a bomb in the skin of an airplane(s).
