It wouldn't be the first time USAir(ways) turned tail and ran from the west coast and SWA.
As far as Parker "promising" to protect the AWA employees, that's meaningless. Parker himself said in the Aug 28 PHX Pilot Crew Meeting that his job is to protect the corporation, and he would be remiss in his responsibilities if he didn't always do what is best for USAirways. He said he was sorry that some of his decisions were hurting people (maybe he was sincere, maybe not, but that point is moot.) Nevertheless, he said he will do whatever is necessary to keep the company sustainable.
Personally, I doubt that he would ever close PHX as a hub. But nothing surprises me anymore at this company except for the occasional good news.
