Just a couple excerpts:

- "with one swift stroke, deregulation of international markets would eliminate a major motivation for many of the (airline) mergers"

- "ending any limits on foreign ownership...would eliminate another major reason that carriers seek a merger"

- "allowing foreign carriers cabotage would benefit air travelers"

- "privatize U.S. airports thereby allowing them to compete agressively for air carrier service"

- "travelers would have been $20 billion worse off due to higher fares and less frequent service if Southwest Airlines did not exist at all"

Wouldn't you love to hear Uncle Bob's candid opinion of Tilton, Grinstein & Doug?

And Airline employees would have been better off if Crandall left the industry sooner than he did. It was he that started off the infamous "B" scale two tier wage system that others soon followed. Then he cranked up AMR services so that he could eliminate some of his own employees jobs with a company that was a wholly owned subdivision of his airline. I never cared for the big mouth know-it-all, and I never will. Even after his retirement he continues to spout off his endless knowledge of the industry. Did he ever speak publicly about all of the fowl tricks that he used to run BN out of business?

I can't seem to read anything in your post on comments Crandall has made about US Airways. Did you miss a quote or two? Hmmmmmm

(you must be one of the nitpickers who complained about holiday meals too...)

Read it again: (page A16 paragraph 7)

- "consumers would actually have been better off during that year if US Airways had left the industry because more efficient carriers, such as Southwest, would have entered its routes"

Hey wings -- does the airline industry exist to serve its employees or the flying public?

Remember that Crandall was the guy who devised the 'frequent-flyer' program which surely benefitted USAirways.

Say again what present industry perk was introduced by your Piedmonters??

Me, me, me - I know the answer, Teacher....

Not having to connect in ATL (no offense to DL folks - just remembering the old joke about having to connect in ATL on your way to Heaven)

Jim

Yeah, on Piedmont's "hopscotch" fares (anyone remember those???), you would have just made 4 stops on the way to Heaven!!! 😉

The way it was told to me was that you would have to connect through ATL on your way to hell.

Hmm maybe its the more recent retelling?

Although ATL to me has very few windows in some concourse areas.

Or the differing character of the one's doing the teling....

Jim

ps - and I do remember the "Hop Scotch" fares - that brings back memories.....

Does anyone actually care what "Crybaby Crandall" has to say ??
His opinion is worth as much as mine..[Nothing]..

<_< --- How about this one?---- Champaign flights? And a little bird saying-- " This is the only way to fly!"?--- 😉 Or have you forgotten so soon?

Except he can speak from experience having been the Chairman and CEO of a successful global carrier.

"Hey wings -- does the airline industry exist to serve its employees or the flying public?"

What kind of a Jackass comment is that? Southwest takes good care of their employees, don't they? Maybe you and Bobby Crandall never heard the old saying about the Happy employee being a productive employee. I think that you will be hard pressed to find any AA employees that had a deep love for Crandall. Your employees are the ones that deal with the flying public, are they not? Piss them all off, and watch customer service go down the toilet in a hurry. Serve your employees well, and in turn they will serve the customers well.

And airline employees would be better off if USAirways would have gone away before they set the LOWEST PAY scales in the industry  FIRST at running airlines pay and benefits into the damn dumpster
