Murmuration

Very cool. They look just like a school of sardines or anchovies when they move through the water. Thanks for sharing it dude.

At one point in that video I think I saw a silhouette of Herman Cain.............
Must every thread here turn into a political joust?

Back on topic:

It is amazing the way the Starlings and other species that travel in large groups like that can communicate so rapidly to have that choreographed looking dance in the air/sea.

Cool video, though it reminds me of an old Stephen King book and movie, The Dark Half !

"The Swallows are flying!"

I cannot find the article I read but this pretty much matches what I have read before.

How does a flock of birds wheel and swoop in unison?
In reality this behavior results from far less mysterious causes. Such movements are a prime example of emergent behavior: the behavior is not a property of any individual bird, but rather emerges as a property of the group itself. There is no leader, no overall control; instead the flock's movements are determined by the moment-by-moment decisions of individual birds, following simple rules in response to interactions with their neighbors in the flock.

Swarm behaviour
From a more abstract point of view, swarm behaviour is the collective motion of a large number of self-propelled entities.[1] From the perspective of the mathematical modeller, it is an emergent behaviour arising from simple rules that are followed by individuals and does not involve any central coordination.
