Whenever AMFA makes a claim about their contract at Northwest Airlines, remember that AMFA gave management a green light to subcontract up to 38% of the Northwest mechanic work hours to repair stations, including non-union and foreign stations. AMFA’s job protection loophole increased the amount of permissible subcontracting by almost 150%! That huge loophole has allowed Northwest to shut down its Atlanta repair base just last month and eliminate over 1,000 mechanic jobs. How many mechanic jobs will disappear forever to subcontracting? You can bet AMFA won’t tell you!

As most of you probably know, a lot of the money behind the AMFA effort is coming from an organization called 'The McCormick Advisory Group.' What you probably didn't know is that McCormick is a REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT FIRM!

Now why do you suppose a real estate firm in Laconia, New Hampshire would be interested in representing Southwest aircraft mechanics? Do you think they really care about issues that affect us?

Of course not!

All you have to do is follow the money. By doing a little homework it's easy to find that these are the same folks who convinced the Northwest mechanics they'd be better off alone. Little did the mechanics know when they joined AMFA that a large percentage of their dues would later be siphoned off and sent to guess where? Laconia, New Hampshire!

The McCormick Advisory group is paid nearly a half a million dollars a year to provide what they call "administrative services" to the mechanic's union. Pretty sweet deal, huh?

So what's happening here is that BUSINESSES are finding they can make a lot of money by organizing workers and providing "administrative services" to them. All they have to do is convince them how much better off they would be alone without the hassle of belonging to a real union.

It's the slickest form of UNION-BUSTING we've ever seen.

It's all about turning big, strong unions into little, weak unions.

And Continental Airlines couldn't be happier.

After all, if the mechanics ever decided to go on strike, Continental wouldn't have to worry about the reaction of sympathetic Teamster fuelers. They won't have to worry about Teamster truckers using their trucks in very creative ways. They won't need to worry about Teamster money or political clout.

All they'd have to do is wait until the AMFA ran out of cash.

(And where do you think McCormick and friends are going to be when that happens?)

Under the IAM’s Northwest Contract the IAM was able to file grievances to contest subcontracting by the Company. AMFA gave up that right when it gave the Company a free hand to subcontract. AMFA can’t do anything about subcontracting so long as NWA doesn’t exceed 38% of work hours. You can bet Northwest management knows how to massage those numbers so it can farm out union jobs to low cost repair stations.

You might ask what union would ever agree to let management eliminate almost 40% of union work through subcontracting? Well, no real union ever would and the Teamsters Union consistently negotiates scope restrictions in mechanic contracts to prevent those management tactics. But the AMFA “Association†with its management lawyers, real estate property managers and nonexistent negotiators lets management get away with it. What else can you expect from a “virtual union†that exists only on the internet?

In fact, AMFA is being sued right now by Northwest mechanics who claim that AMFA blew a grievance against 9/11 layoffs by failing to follow contract procedures and that the “Association†failed to file grievances to dispute Company subcontracting. The judge found that nothing refuted the mechanics’ claim that AMFA had failed to file grievances. Not only did AMFA not file grievances on Company subcontracting, the mechanics claim that it misled them into not filing grievances on their own! AMFA presented nothing to the judge to dispute the mechanics’ allegation. So that’s AMFA “representation.†Screw up filing grievances where members’ jobs are on the line and then mislead them into giving up their own right to file a grievance!

When you think about protecting your job against cut-rate subcontracting, remember, the Teamsters Union fights to preserve bargaining-unit work and AMFA gives it away, either by contract or incompetence!
 
What is AMFA?

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) is an independent labor union representing aircraft technicians and, in their words, airline support personnel. AMFA is not affiliated with the AFL-CIO or any other labor organization. It is based in Laconia, New Hampshire.

Background

AMFA was founded by O.V. Delle-Femine, who is the only President/National Director AMFA has ever had. (40 years) Delle-Femine was born and raised in East Providence, Rhode Island. He obtained technical training as a mechanic while working in the Air Force. He became actively involved in union affairs after he left the Air Force and began working for American Airlines. Delle-Femine is well read and reportedly immersed himself in books on the history of the American labor movement. He eventually became disillusioned with the state of the mechanics' union at American and committed himself to creating a "better" labor union focusing on the "craft" aspect of the mechanics work group. Delle-Femine and a few of his friends formed AMFA in 1962 supposedly as an alternative to the traditional industrial unions that had dominated union organizing among the mechanics' craft or class up until that time. It formally became a union in 1963.

Delle-Femine and AMFA have been repeatedly frustrated over the years by the National Mediation Board's (NMB) craft or class unit determinations that consistently group so-called "unskilled" workers such as cleaners and fuelers with so-called "skilled" workers such as aircraft technicians. AMFA has consistently made clear that it strongly favors rules that would enable it to represent only these "skilled" workers. For the most part, AMFA's efforts have been unsuccessful. In fact, AMFA had very little success organizing any employees prior to 1994. The few companies where it had any success in organizing new employees (Ozark Airlines, Hughes Airwest, Southern Airways, Braniff, Trump Shuttle, Pacific Airlines, and Airlift International) are no longer in business (either through mergers or going out of business). However, the contracts AMFA negotiated during this period were always viewed as mid-scale. For the most part, AMFA was not a significant player in the airline labor movement through the mid 90-s. Its membership had dropped to only 439 employees by the end of 1996. Its only active members worked at Atlantic Coast Airlines, a relatively small regional airline based in Washington, D.C. With membership levels at an all time low, AMFA's finances were in shambles.

Delle-Femine recently has changed the by-laws to Gurrantee his retirement and is believed to be grooming Kevin McCormick a sub-contractor to take his place. Their Attorneys are known for testifing against Labor and works with Management. AMFA is also famous for walking away from their membership during Bankruptcy proceedings.

Yea, just ask the guys over at Overnight trucking about how the TEAMSTERs backed them up.

When they had Carey they were a union to be reckoned with, Hoffa however is too busy sucking up to Bush to make any waves.

As I recall, the Senior AMFA Rep from NWA cited a LOA, letter of agreement, between the IAM and NWA from the LAST CONTRACT PASSED UNDER IAM CONTROL which stated that there could be no layoffs of IAM REPRESENTED AMTS if there was outsourcing ongoing.

The Problem Is That The IAM Agreed To A Mutual Expiration Date For The LOA.....Under the RLA, the Collective Bargaining Agreement Never Expires---unless the parties agree to such a clause.

As a result of that LOA, NWA was able to outsource 100% of the overhaul.\

Once again, the AMFA cleans up an Industrial Union mess.
 
Why did Drippy know you foos would not and could not face the truth that the amfa group,aka amfag, is worthless as those that back it...hahahahahaha.amfag...hey Booby....if it was an International Group would it be IAMFAG...hahahahahahahahaha..it would fit by the looks and actions of it dweeble followers....
