Looks like Miami-Madrid is really down the list there. Poor Miami never gets respect, it like the Rodney Dangerfield field of American international airports.

Did you not read what I wrote? The list is in no particular order.

You have absolutley no idea what are you talking about regarding your comments on Miami. Only New York City/JFK is served by more international airlines than Miami. I couldn't care less that service to Asia is limited. Everything else is top notch, what most airports could only dream of.

I don'y appreciate being insulted. If I disagree with your opinions, sorry I'm entitled to them as you are to yours. I agree with your list of the Atlantic's busiest routes. I grew up in Florida and had the displeasure of flying airlines like Avianca and Aerocondor to a place of pure misery Barranquilla, Colombia, my mother is from there. Eastern was little better and AA stilll better but the place still is lousy. I make no apologies if my flying experiences from JFK to Europe are far happier. My flying from the Miami airport has been to less quality destinations then from JFK. I make no apologies for my views on this subject.

It taken MIA 20 years to finaly get it act together, Eastern & Pan AM were not in the financial situation to pay for the needed upgrades at MIA. While concourse H( Delta & USAIR) was upgraded, Concourse F ( Pan Am's) was only partially done, Concourse A is nice but it still going to be a while before the AA North Terminal is done. Concourses B & C still have to become dust before before AA is finally where it wants to be. JFK has been under construction for 10 years, hey the awful IAB is gone, its no called terminal 4.

If your comparing terminals, yes Miami needed a makeover. But I wouldn't be throwing stones... AA's terminal at JFK is far worse than MIA right now. And you don't have to walk outside to change terminals at Miami like you do at JFK right now. It will be nice when they are both finished. JFK will always have better connects to Europe it just supports it. MIA will always have better connects to South and Central America and the Carib. Thats what makes our network balanced. Lets hope that we continue to see profitablity at both hubs.

Or, are they counting on the "return of the 1300?" 😛

I know right now the Reserves are not flying. There seems to be plenty of people sitting instead of flying. The only thing they are short of is Pursers at IMA. Now with Memorial Day weekend approaching I'm sure alot of Reserves will be called but for right now things look fine as far as staffing. When you say new flying you have to remember that it is probably flying that was moved from another area. AA doesn't really announce service that is discontinued. So this new flying is most likely flying that has been taken from another part of the system. Remember some of our summer flying to Europe is seasonal and it would not be hard to have a 767 that usually flys JFK-FCO during the summer start flying MIA-MAN durning the winter.

Thanks for the info but just curious if you or someone else can confirm your comment about reserves sitting? Is this just for the MIA base? I am being told ( Granted I am not on the line ) that reserves in DFW and ORD and being maxxed
out. Also, reassignments at those bases are rampant.

Hi all,

Starting next week, you will find a new reporting tool regarding reschedules. At the APFA Board Convention in March, I had put forward a resolution regarding the outrageous increase in reschedules, especially in the bases of ORD and DFW. These 2 bases are subject to continual reschedules when the FAs return from their line sequence to their base. Often times they are RSK’d to cover another base’s trip or VMs.



Crew Tracking has a variety of ways they code a RSK. They use RS, Code 25, LO, etc. There are RSKs due to a MIC. Those are legal per the contract.



What we are trying to track through these forms is when crew tracking is violating Article 9. L.; the order of open time that crew sked and crew tracking are supposed to follow.



Summer is coming upon us. Remember the nightmare of last July? AA has no idea how many FAs will actually return from the overage leaves. Also, how high will the sick list go?



Please, look for the very bright lime green forms under the APFA Bulletin Board at K19 Ops. They should be there early next week.

I can only tell you whats happening here in MIAMI. However, usually scheduling trys to balance out the system with reserves so that all bases are flying about the same time. Thats why you will see seq transferred to other bases in Open Time. So I think its safe to say that if one base is not using their reserves that most of the bases are at or about the same level. I know Reserves here in Miami have been telling me that they have only flown 1 or 2 trips this month. I know you would probably rather hear that we needed more f/a's but to be honest with you I think staffing is good right now. With summer approaching that could change. By the way wasn't it Wing and a Prayer who was predicting that we would see a re- furlough of those called back last fall. I guess we proved him wrong.

As always, it varies from one base to the next. I talked with a friend of mine at SLT (St. Louis AA base). He flew 84 hours on reserve in April. In fact, he flew every single reserve day except for the 3 days he sat standby at the airport.

On the STL side (St. Louis TW base), according to him they are overstaffed because they continue to pull down the STL schedule as more TW planes are converted to the AA certificate. (I think the company is planning to retrain all the TW side people at one time once the STL base is terminated.)

An interesting thing about reserves. I was based at DFW. Every single reserve month, I flew at least one MIA or LGA trip where I was deadheaded to MIA or LGA, worked the trip, then dhd back to DFW. I heard similar experiences from my classmates based at ORD. Yet, when I talked with reserves in MIA or LGA, they said they were not being utilized. At the time, none of us junior people could get the union to look at the issue. They insisted that it wasn't happening, or that MIA and LGA were covering just as many DFW and ORD trips.

I had one reserve trip where I worked 2 "MIA" legs in a 4-day trip. One was as an extra on MIA-LAX. The other was the last leg of the 4-day, MIA-DFW. On that leg, the #1 was a MIA reserve. He told me that he only had 43 hours for the month (we were in the last week of the month). At that point I already had 71 hours and was good for 3 more days. Go figure.

Had 2 reserves on our last seq. Both had very few hours. Saw a domestic friend she had sat her whole 5 day set and nothing, she hardly moved up the list for available reserves.

JFK is an airport with better days in front, then behind it.

Terminal 1 was new in 1998 on the old Eastern site: Air France, Lufthansa, Korean and JAL seeking refuge from the awful IAB. An arrangement similar to T7. A building Virgin and SIA moved to and then from, I would have stayed since its tenants are similar to these two illustrious airlines; T4 may be newer but is it better?
Terminals 2( designed for the 747) & 3, the old Pan Am Worldport, are old buildings handling Delta and Song.
Terminal 4, built new on the site of the old IAB, handles everything from Virgin and SIA to PIA and Air India, a liitle bit of everything. T4 is where airlines if they can't get in some palce else. Some go there by choice( Virgin and SIA).
T5 is the old TWA international terminal and is no longer used, some are trying to save part of it for its arquitectual value and use the fasade for a new JetBlue and UA terminal.
T6 is now JetBlue, was the domestic TWA and before that the National Sun King Dome. A vintage building with a 21st century airline.
Terminal 7 is perhaps the most luxurious building at JFK, THE BRITISH AIRWAYS terminal; its the only terminal for a foreign airline on foreign soil. BA has some tenants like UA, Cathay, Qantas and All Nippon, only the A list need apply, its has more lounges then most airports do to the number of First Class, Club and though the Concorde is gone the "Concorde "lounge still exists for First Class pre flight dinner and "direct to the airplane" boarding.
Terminal 8 & 9 are the last two terminal at JFK and are now AA domain, T9 was the old UA, are being replaced by a huge new AA T8 that looks like the UA ORD terminal. More then half the terminals have been built new.
