No carryons allowed on flights from/connecting in UK

NHBB, we will never go the route of El-Al for the sole reason that it will cost more money. Apparently it will take another disaster in the air for the possibility of that occuring.
I walked through THREE security screenings a few weeks ago with a 5 inch knife in my bag. These points were DCA and JFK twice. They caught it ZERO times. I noticed the knife on my layover.(Son's fishing knife).
I for one am tired of being politcally correct. They view us as the evil foe, well I think it is time we profile them also. And yes I will mention them as the ignorant radical islamic.Unfortunately most of these are severely uneducated fanatics who are supported by the educated rich fanatics in Saudi, Syria and beyond.
I am tired of being scared to go to work!

TSA made me throw away my milk and coffee creamer before going thru security this morning at DFW. A couple of flight attendants in front of me were told they would have to throw away everything they had that was liquid or gel,etc.. One of the FA's had a expensive bottle of perfume in her bag and said you can kiss my ass if you think im going to throw this in the trash. A lot of employees had to throw a lot of stuff away, whether it was sealed up or not. A lot of hot tempers this morning, I know DFW DPS was busy just handling employees.
You mean to tell me that employees lunch boxes are being raided by TSA?

Sounds like we need a time clock in the parking lot so you can eat your lunch at the security line.

Al-Qaeda and its allies have moved away from using Middle Easterners and persons of non-Western citizenship - so whom exactly should be subject to "profiling"? Black people like one of the 7/7 bombers? Young white men like AMERICAN al-Qaeda John Walker Lindh and clean-cut, homegrown, ex-military AMERICAN terrorist Timothy McVeigh? Or white women like the Belgian woman who became a suicide bomber in the Mideast a year or so ago?

In fact, a Middle Eastern "profile" would have failed in this case because the suspects are BRITISH nationals of Pakistani origin.

Not directed towards you specifically, but some food for thought for everyone - the only thing worse than harboring ignorant beliefs with the aim of causing terrorism is harboring ignorant beliefs in the hopes of preventing it.

YOu are right , let's just target all who profess to be islamic. Unless we change our security measures to those similar to El-Al's, tell me what can we do? They see us as evil, what do you suggest we see them as?
I know this sounds ignorant on my part, but I have done nothing to hurt their lives, yet they are affecting mine. I am over it.

"How dare we inconvenience you. So sorry you are alive."-Skymess

I have to think a lot of this was an unnecessary inconvenience. If you're going to treat all fluids as a bomb threat, shouldn't the TSA handle the disposed fluids as potential explosives? People had to toss everything in trash bins in crowded corridors; so I ask you, How necessary was it to ask everyone to toss everything away? Looks like more eye wash to me.

Time to buy stock in Procter & Gamble.

So when no one professes to be Islamic in order to avoid the humiliating treatment you seek to levy upon Muslims, what then?

No one said there will be no on board beverage service.

All beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency which are brought to the airport by the passenger must be checked in.

Beverages purchased in the boarding area, beyond the checkpoint, must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.

I only meant that the Israeli's KNOW EXACTLY the origin of ANYTHING that comes in contact with their A/C !!!

NH/BB's

It's August and government thugs have declared beverages to be prohibited items.

Not only have the Brits lost their minds, so have the Americans.

FWAAA,

I'm "somewhat" surprised that you've taken this attitude  !

AAStew,

(SADLY) you will probably be right.

My point is.."DON'T wait for one more incident".
DO the friggin' "thing" RIGHT , NOW, then we, like the Israeli's, won't have to concern ourselves again.

Let Arpey, journey to Tel Aviv, sit down with the Israeli's, and get them to work our security !

Since when did AA EVER wait for anyone else, to be the "First" ???

Sure would make one heck of a TV commercial !!

Well, NH/BBs, I'm very surprised you bought into yet another Tony Blair/George Bush fear-mongering campaign.

Yes, the Brits arrested two dozen people thought to be in a conspiracy to blow up 10 airplanes using various liquids.

So the day they arrest the alleged bad guys, the UK bans all carryon bags and the thugs here ban all liquids.

You're a logical guy: If it makes one iota of sense to do this today, why not on September 13, 2001? Why not when the Brits first got wind of this alleged plot back in December?

It was 108 in my part of the Valley on Wednesday. A record high for that date. Water isn't some kind of luxury that ultra-rich (like me) drink constantly. It's a little more important than that.

Maybe these two dozen alleged bad guys are really bad guys and will be convicted for plotting to blow up airplanes. But then again, look at 43's pathetic conviction record on big-catch terrorism arrests. Most end up convicted of immigration violations.

Grown-ups (instead of the thugs in charge of the DHS and TSA) would have said "Folks, the Brits arrested some guys who are alleged to have plotted to use liquids to blow up airplanes. We could take the outrageous step of banning all liquids, but we're going to take the pragmatic risk-management approach instead of the risk avoidance approach. We think you'll understand. Not all risks can be prevented, and we don't see the cost-benefit in banning all liquids. No airplanes have blown up in the USA in millions of flights involving billions of passengers, so treating each and every one of you as a potential bomber just doesn't make any sense to us."

But they didn't. Like thugs, they took away my daughters' waters and chapstick. Thugs with guns. Not professional security.

Skymess laments that only crewmembers took this "threat" seriously. That is truly sad. It suggests the possession of overactive imaginations and an unhealthy obsession with negligible risk, IMO. Airline pilots (including AA) actually spoke out publicly yesterday about the outrageous nature of TSA's response:

Duane Woerth, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, said the government was overreacting. "They paralyzed the system with the hassle factor again," Woerth said.

During the first few hours of the alert, the TSA was taking toiletries away from flight crews, he said. "Then they said, 'This is stupid. We're taking toothpaste away from the guy who's going to fly the plane.' It didn't take them long to back down."

But Frank Cilluffo, director of the Homeland Security Policy Institute at George Washington University, said it makes sense to insert "uncertainty and randomness into the system so we can't let the adversary game the system."

Still, he said, coordination among agencies and the industry remains a problem.

Denis Breslin, spokesman for the American Airlines pilots union, faulted nagging communication shortcomings among intelligence, law enforcement and homeland security agencies.

"There's a whole lot of people making rules up right now, and until they get it all sorted out, every passenger is going to have to go through the nightmarish procedures that they're putting together right now," said Breslin.

David Mackett, a pilot who heads the Airline Pilots Security Alliance, said flight crews are treated as part of the problem.

"We're not happy that every time there's a threat we find out from the media, and that there's almost a complete vacuum of information when it comes to the air crews," Mackett said.

Mr Breslin thinks it's nightmarish - so I'm in good company.

What really gets me is the fact that all common sense gets thrown away. Gee the TSA guy has been watching me for 30 minutes in line and has seen me drinking from this coffee cup or seen me drink from this waterbottle, if the TSA is that scared by those drink containers than have the person take a big drink right in front of them, if its such a dangerous liquid then wouldn't it make sense that the so called terrorist wouldn't drink it, Helloooooooo. Don't they make you turn on laptops to see that you are really carring a computer, well some common sense sure would go a looooooong way here.

Fixer, it's been several years since I had to fire up my laptop for security in the USA.

I agree with your sentiment - my nine year old daughters should have been able to demonstrate the safety of their chapstick by applying it to their lips and the safety of their water by drinking some, but the thugs in charge (Chertoff and Hawley) would have none of that.

In fact, a Middle Eastern "profile" would have failed in this case because the suspects are BRITISH nationals of Pakistani origin.

Oh, BS--a "British national of Pakistani origin" Would CERTAINLY still appear "Middle Eastern" and would fit the profile just fine, you politically correct idiot!

HELL YES!!! Profile, profile, PROFILE!!!
Let the avek-type scream "discrimination" all they want. The true idiocy is forcing EVERYONE to give up their water and cosmetics because of islamofascist scum!

You are so right--common sense is truly lacking, while political correctness--i.e., no profiling of those who obviously look Muslim and/or Middle Eastern--runs rampant.

The most glaring idiocy is the prohibition on liquids purchased on the concourses AFTER the security checkpoint, and the secondary gate screening. An obvious admission that the TSA doesn't trust their own screeners...
