As Continental, just a few hours ago, took the Brave step, to tell the INDUSTRY that It does NOT need another carrier(NO MERGERS),......................It is Not too Late for NW to pull out of the "Ill advised"(Ill advised...think Anderson/Steenland). Takeover by DL.(When a carrier(NW) loses it "paint job", headquarters, and overall Culture, THAT my friends is a TAKE OVER) !

In my opinion, carriers WHO have signaled that they WANT to do a "hook up"(think DL/UA/US), should "dance" with each other.

Don't shareholders still have to approve? Maybe this latest (CO) development will cause them to rethink and this will all end? Anybody?

Well to be totally honest LUKE,

Convincing RAnderson to come to DL was a GOOD move (by DL), though the question will always remain, especially in ATL, that IF RA didn't have a "WILLING" Steenland in his back pocket, would DL then still have chosen Anderson, over the "home grown" EXEC's just under Grinstein.

Having said that, if NW was not an "option", DL "may" have gone after UAL, even if it meant having to give up the DL Name etc., because quite honestly, LCC brings nothing to DL, that it does NOT already have.

As to your (direct) question,....we'd have to Imagine that, at this VERY moment, Thousands of folks in MSP are asking Aloud the obvious question.........."Tell me again, why WE are "dismantling NW" ?

I'd like to be a "fly on the wall" at city hall in MSP, and the Governors mansion as well, this morning.

When Anderson was announced as the next CEO we all knew it would come to this. Frankly, I'm glad its NW and not one of the other carriers, I'm more likely to not get laid off, again.

good point, nhbb. if this thing goes through, nothing will remain "Northwest" - employees, aircraft, hq, policies, routes, etc, that was "once" Northwest, will be no longer. everything will then be 'DELTA'.. hmmm.

Come to think of it, same thing as AA and TWA.

You mentioned AA & TWA in your response. I don't believe you are comparing apples to apples. I can only speak of things I have seen in my more than 20 years with Delta. I think Delta has tried her best to preserve the heritage of any airline she has merged with. One example is the "early bird" which was added to the livery on at least one MD-88. I don't know exactly how many had this logo.

My shop is about to lose it's last Western Airlines/Delta Airlines employee. I wish I could name him so you could talk to him and find out how he feels about leaving this company which is made up of several airlines. He is leaving Aug. 1st. Most in my shop have spent time with him looking through pictures of old Western pictures on a web site. My shop has had 5 Western brothers for years since the merger. I wish I could give this forum the names of all my friends so you could talk to them and find out how close we have become. I am not saying there is not sadness about a company being merged and it's name being lost to most of the public. I am saying that Delta will be gaining a heritage which I hope will be kept in the public eye for years to come and that I hope there will be more friendships made out of all of this. I don't put my thoughts in writing well but maybe some friendships can be formed here, after all we are all on the same side.
