Northwest Flight Attendants Feel The Heat

Union leaders say this offer would wipe out 5,600 of the union's 9,736 jobs.Fiske, and others, think what Northwest wants to do is use an independent contractor to supply the airline with cheap flight attendants on the international flights and on smaller planes.

Northwest's actions toward some of its most dedicated workers is frightening and painful.

It's frightening because Northwest is showing, in its dealings with mechanics, that there's no room for conversation. It's the company's way, or else."But we really can't afford to waste time being frightened," Fiske said. "Our members are counting on us."

Looks to me like AMFA may have company on the line soon.

"We want 53% of your jobs , as well as a 20% pay cut...."

They've gotten ballsy thinking they can run roughshod over the unions now.

I wonder what they want from the "Frightened Machinist"...

<_< Surprise! Surprise!!!! What's the old saying? Stand together, or hang seperatly!!!!!

I just hope Mrs Hedges remembers 1993 and the plight we faced..
It seems you have no choice-keep unified..
all my best and support!!

If they make it through AMFA who will stand up for the other unions?

The fact is NOBODY, and nobody should since they have shown that they are not willing to do the same. Members of the IAM and other unions should start a recall drive due to the lack of leadership in their unions.

NWA can demand ANYTHING now and get it because they know for sure that the workers will not support each other.

By the way Gasoline just went up by 50cents. So just in time for the paycuts you will get a double whammy, decreased income and higher prices. Not only that but the airline will demand even more of a paycut to help them pay for the fuel.

Somebody has to pay for the tax cuts for the rich. How much did your CEO get last year? Keep acting like frightened little sheep and your destiny as mutton will be here before you know it.

That's why all unions, regardless who they are, need to unite as one. Corporate greed is everywhere. That's what I don't understand with this strike. Pilots, FA's and Ramp personel are all going to be affected with this. Their naive if they think their not. These companies will never stop until they brake all unions. The Pilots with their " better then you " attitude needs to stop. They're in the crossheirs too.
Come on people, please see the writing on the wall, all of our careers depend on it!!!

Explain that theory to the IAM who have a clause in their current which states they do not have to cross a picket line, but choose to do so!!! If NWA is successful in breaking AMFA what bargining power does the IAM think they will have? Do the honestly think they will be keeping the jobs they are now doing that were preformed by AMFA? If they get AMFA off the property, the IAM will not be far behind. There are also thousands of capable replacement workers out there to fill their shoes!!

"Corporate greed is everywhere."

That is why unions will not unite. If unions merge someone is going to give up union dues. That is not going to happen. As long as you sheep continue to willingly give them your money they are going to take it and tell you all kinds of lies to get you to keep paying it. When all is said, done and over with management is going to have theirs union management is going to have yours, and you are going to be standing in the parking lot wondering how could I have been so stupid. Some of you will still be picketing saying, "AMFA will rise again." while the public drives by and wonders why someone hasn’t had you committed yet. In the meantime the “replacement workersâ€￾ which are no longer replacement workers but permanent employees will be going to what was your job to collect what was your paycheck.

Dear SCAB,

You are about to be proven wrong.
You are such a fool and I don't know why I waste my time responding to you!!!
You speak of a 'permanent paycheck' as if this was accurate. Nothing is permanent in this world and your 'paycheck' is elastic. Address the benefits!!!

You are absolutely correct every thing has a life span no matter how long or short it might be. Unlike you I refuse to get attached to something I have no control over. I just sort of go with the flow of life. Where you try to force things to go your way then get upset when it doesn't. I'm sorry to inform you that AMFA lifespan has all but expired.

Address the benefits? I'm sure that at sometime early in AMFA's life that there was some good that was done. However haven't you ever heard, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"?
