Starting Apr.4 NW starts LAX-DEN 2x and @ more MSP-LAX.Im sure this is just a coincedence. ;)

Since Frontier initiated the service it seems it would be more appropriate to title this thread "Frontier Goes After Northwest." ;)

Either way, it's nice to see NW actually reacting quickly.
Reacting and overreacting with a money-losing, stupid move (LAX-DEN) are two different things...there is little damage to be done to Frontier with just 2 flights per day in a market where UA already flies 10+ times per day, F9 at least 6X per day and AA at least 2-3X per day.

NW is starting to do a lot of non hub flying, and I wonder if this is NW creating focus cities, without any fanfare and hoopla

LAX - LAS
LAX - DEN

MKE - BOS
MKE - DCA
MKE - LAX
MKE - LGA
MKE - MCO

So, now NW has 3 routes out of LAX that bypass the hubs totally, could there be more to come ?

What I was told by Suzanne Boda (VP for line stations), is that while NW will not be abandoning the hub-and-spoke model, they will be actively seeking to increase point-to-point service (think more of the "from- the- frigid- north- to -sunny -Florida) as a means to keep A/C moving. They will also be shifting A/C from routes they've deemed to be unprofitable to these routes.
