Obama: 'War In Iraq Is Over'; All Troops Will Withdraw By Year's End

I think Reagan did Grenada.

Yes he did! So now we're trying praise the empty suit for essentially getting us thrown out of Iraq? Forgetting the fact that we didn't belong there in the first place

Well maybe he's learning to be a good Republican like Nixon who ended Viet Nam by essentially declaring victory and leaving. SSDD

The better question would be what was Bush thinking?

We did not get thrown out. The agreement Bush negotiated/forced on Iraq had troops out by the end of 2011 anyway. Supposedly Obama was negotiating for an extension that was contingent on the troops having immunity which Iraq would not grant. It's not like Obama wanted to stay so I am betting that he did not press the issue. Sadir has threatened to pull out of the coalition if US troops stayed so US troops go bye bye and Iraq will implode inside of a year, at least that is my guess. The whole bloody mess was such a waste. A waste of human lives, a waste of money, political clout. Just an entire waste.

Yepper!! A mess that the Back Bench Junior Senator posing as President could have ended on January 21, 2009. So how many dead soldiers blood is on his hands? Screw the Iraqi's, US lives are the only ones who matter to me.

Why when Bush II declared Mission Accomplished, did he not pull the troops out?

And I didnt see you make a big deal when he invaded Iraq in the first place.

And if Bush I would have taken out Saddam during Desert Storm, our troops wouldnt be there in the first place.

Assign the blame to Bush II, not Obama, your hatred of him is blinding your intelligence.

He's a President. There are more people than just Generals to listen to when it comes to defining american policy.

Why? I'm sure more than 99.99% of people in the u.s. military are just as much strangers to you as Iraqi Soldiers/Civilians would be. I can't see how one can make a reasonable value distinction there...

While I do agree the US should be focused on their own country and not fix everyone else problems. The US is the newest first world country in the world. We have only been around for about 300 years that is NOTHING compared to some other country's. It is also the reason we do not have our own culture yet because we have just taken bits and pieces of everyone elses culture and turned it into some grotesque monster of a culture that might be a beautiful goddess in another 500 years or so.

As has been the way of the Obama administration.
We elected a community organizer with no political experience so what does one expect?
He didn't listen to his Generals and soon the world will deal with his shortcomings.

Don't forget what happened to General Shinseki when he said that we were going to need more troops than were alloted to secure Iraq. Did they listen to him, not only no but he was basicaly shown the door. We all know what the end result was.

If you listen to the interview Cheney gave in 1994 he spells out why Bush Sr. Did not take out Sadam. As much as I despise Cheney,he bit it dead on in that interview. What I do not understand is why he did and about face in 2003. Everything he said in the 94 interview came true with the invasion of 2003.

I think the answer is simple. The events of 9/11 played a huge part. As a nation we had an intense desire to "Do Something" to retaliate. An idea that I think everyone can support at least in concept. This nation and the vast majority of the people in it wanted to fight back and fight back hard.

As a result, the old saying "When you're a hammer everything looks like a nail" concept took over. I mean if you have the largest most powerful military in the world what fun is it it to not use them? So we did and instead of the Middle East countries saying "Oh thanks for introducing us to Freedom and Liberty" they flipped us the bird. Which if you think about it for a minute was bound to happen.

The simplest, best way to solve our "Middle East Problem" is to withdraw from the region and become energy independent. If we don't have to buy oil from the region or from out of the US they can take their prayer rugs, bow towards Mecca and hop on their camel and back to a tribal lifestyle. Bye we hardly knew ya
