The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations.

How many Presidents have talked about doing that? Talking about it and doing it are two different things. If he were to actually accomplish a nuclear weapons free world, which I doubt anyone can, that would be an achievement worthy of the award.

I'm not the only thinking this has more to do with the previous president than the current one.

This is the real world, not some fantasy. Once those countries and other terrorist nations have the capabilities, then there will be no negotiation happening. They will dictate terms, and the appeasing nations will follow of course. Pathetic.

If you've ever known someone who was in such physical pain that they became addicted to painkillers you'd likely be more sensitive. How did Obama make the prize "irrelevant and meaningless?" (he was awarded this by others, not himself)

You are already writing his history when the vast majority of his term has yet to be served. (can you predict the future? IF so what are the winning powerball numbers on the third Friday in November 2012?)

I'm no fan of this President, but unlike those opposed to the last President- I'm not willing to go to any lengths to see him fail.

Politically- POTUS should simply state that on reflection he is required by his personal dictates to refuse the Nobel Peace Prize in favor of all Political Prisoners.

As he usually does: he can leave vacant the specifics so the left can claim the Nobel Laureates are actually at GITMO; while the right can claim they are imprisoned within any of a number of controlled economy states.

The resulting blur will diminish the claims from the right of messianic propensities and the discontent from the left of the failure to turn the US into Sweden.
