OHIO Repeals UNION Busting Law !

Speaking of Unions and their demise, Atlas Shrugged , Part I is out on DVD and Bluray. Great book and movie !

dell, you know dam well how a contract works !!!!!!!!!!!!

If the wages and pensions of a towns/cities PS workers are becoming too much to handle, then at the expiration of the latest contract, restucture new wages and pensions(or non-pensions) for the NEXT newly hired employees !

As for the incumbents, "Buy them out" with incentive packages(It's done everyday in American business)
For those incumbents that don't leave, RAISE TAXES more to pay for the obligation(s) in the former contracts that YOU SIGNED on the dotted line for.

It's not rocket science !!!!!!!!!!!! Hel*, I'm living proof having come to American Airlines in 86' at a "C" scale rate.

Bob Crandall made good on the company's "A" scale obligations, and then....made a TON of $$$$ during the next 15 years via the "B" and "C" scale rates.

So please dell, don't tell me it can't be done.

(Notice when you hypothetically go down to the Bank of America, and say...."listen, I know I SIGNED a mortgage deal for $1500 a month, but my situation has changed and I now want the same terms, but only at $750 a month !!) Is it then at 10 min. or 20 min. or 30 min. WHEN they SHOW you the DOOR .

So (try and) Tell me why this scenario of your's is DIFFERENT than mine !!!

And at the end of the contract, when negotiations start and companies or states say, "We can't pay you any more", a strike ensues !

Raise Taxes = Insert here >________________<, Liberal, Demorat or Union rhetoric !

Alot of the cities/states with out of control PS union problems have been dem controlled for quite some time.....promises made for votes....how Reverend Wright put it? America's chickens have come home to roost. And you can throw the cops and firefighters in the mix too.

"A strike ensues"......................SO WHAT ??
southwind, I HOPE your not trying to show/say that striking is NOT as "American as apple pie" ?

Then again, perhaps where you're from, you were never taught true American History, or might have been raised to believe that all strikes are VILE, therefore never learning TRUE and FACTUAL American history.

Look at it this way, the historical education that a elementary school kid gets about the Civil War is going to be VASTLY different from what the child gets/got in (say) Albany NY, as opposed to what the kid gets/got in Albany Georgia !

Catching my drift (yet) southwind ???

TB, maybe you don't understand the difference...

Private sector unions negotiate with the owners. The ability to pay more is based on the company being a sustainable organization.

Public sector unions negotiate with trustees elected by taxpayers. Their ability to pay more is based on raising taxes. As we're seeing more and more at the federal level, it's easy for trustees to make decisions which their successors will have to deal with.

The irony is that some public sector union members figured out that by asking for more, they were just raising their own taxes. Some intentionally live outside their own department's tax boundaries, and/or retire to places like AZ, TX, and UT at the first possible moment -- primarily to keep the benefits they extracted from the taxpayers, yet not having to supporting such Ponzi schemes with their own taxes... This is precisely why some cities require their workers to reside within the tax boundaries.

Yeah..........so what ! A strike ensues ! Trash doesn't get picked up. Students don't get their sub-standard government education and Crime increases , just to state a few of your "So-Whats" unless the government takes "More" money from tax payers, "BY FORCE" if necessary in order to coddle to the few who went on strike !
Learn to stand on you own two feet and stop putting your hands into my pockets !

What in the hell makes you think unions peeps are any different, when it comes to paycuts and cutbacks, than private sector employees who have endured the same cutbacks and paycuts during this world wide financial crisis, that your "Union bought" President has no intention of doing anything about !

What are you going to do when you and your kind has sucked the tax-payer dry and your company/State is broke.................my bad that's already happening !
Catching my drift yet....................Tommy ?

eolesen,
Thanx for that resident requirment that I was UNAWARE of !

southwind,
while our "hypothetical town" finishes paying off the high priced(say) teachers that the town bargained fairly for(in other words ) taking care of thier OBLIGATIONS,......................then as eric eolesen suggested, put in place a residential requirement for the newer lower priced teachers !
Sounds reasonable to me !

You and I know the union would "NEVER" stand for that, so why even mention it !

Maybe Dog doesn't pay any taxes...........................i.e.no skin in the game !

This much heralded win for labor is actually a losing proposition. Much akin to biting ones nose to spite the face.
There won't be tax dollars to pay for all the PS jobs and when that comes down, layoffs of union brothers....WE WON WE WON.
