Like you, I am a fan of precision in communications. That said, are you certain that someone at U didn't mispeak (miswrite) when it said "fuel will cost $44.00 per barrel . . . "?? If someone just wrote sloppily, then they might have really meant "oil" at $44/bbl and not jet "fuel."

Anyway, excellent discussion.

FWAAA,

I won't discount the possibility that you're right. On the other hand, I only know what the filing said, not what the author meant....

What does 'WTI Cushing' mean? .... particularly the 'Cushing' part?

Upon reflection, I'm sure WTI means West Texas Intermediate.

Yes and I don't know.....

Where's jimntx when we need him?

Jim

WTI is, indeed, West Texas Intermediate. Cushing is a city in Oklahoma. It's the price for delivery to Cushing. There's also a WTI-Midland, for delivery to Midland, TX.

Hey, now. I was at the gym getting gorgeous. (It's getting harder to do every day.)

Thanks... that crossed my mind (since I knew of Cushing, OK), but then I thought, why would Texans allow their WTI to be delivered to OKLAHOMA!!!!!!! gasp.

Just as predicted. The question now is. Can US hang on for the next couple of months with record fuel prices along with record low fares?

Not without lowering fares and getting judge relief for round 4 to kick in

Isn't that what they're paying him for. I mean using him for. I mean????

It amazes me that this is maybe the most important issue facing commercial aviation in its history and nobody seems too interested about it. At least until they start doing something about it. Like paycuts. Here's a cutting edge idea, figure out a way to increase revenues without cutting labor cost. Can all the airlines say: Fare increase. Can we possibly sell our product for more than it cost to offer it? Time will tell.

Maybe they think it is something out of their hands.

How about all of us on USAviation chip in and hedge some fuel for USAirways.

Who knows what the answer is?

Oil prices remained a source of concern, however. Light, sweet crude for April delivery was up $1.55 at $54.60 on the New York Mercantile Exchange - a new four-month high.

In the "USA Today" Some people say it will go to $60 a barrel and someone even mentioned $80 a barrel!
