It's a VERY good bet, that first thing(this monday am), that DP will be "sizeing up" another potential "victim"

Who "might it be" ??

NH/BB's

Snore... let's hope its a more exciting one than that. I think the point is too stop being a dozey airline that flies from nowhere to nowhere six different ways with barely any international service....

AA- too big, doesn't seem interested. Buys airlines only to dismantle them so let's hope not...

UA- only other airline that really seems interested in merging and soon. Tried before, now we have the money, brings the intl and a great complementary route map for the most part, would have to please DOJ.

DL- we know this story.

NW- would be great route and fleet wise. Also only other airline aside from Delta in bankrupcy... most natural choice.

CO- doesn't seem likely. Doing fine on it's own, not interested in mergers and one would guess especially not with US.

"victim" is that what you American guys called Reno or TWA? Why not be a little more original that just the "victim". How about something like Office Max or Office Depot which sounds better than "victim" but really means "STAPLES".

Maybe "victim" is what you called the new hire guys and gals?
I wished I had a nickel for all those new hires that said "Thank you American for the B Scale"

About the "sizeing up" there are medications to help you with that.

Adding something dinky like Aloha to our mix is not going to do much to position us against the otherwise inevitable UA/CO, DL/NW etc....

No but you could get to wear a grass skirt and a coconut bra. I can hear Don Ho now.

Hawaiian Airlines = TAHITI SERVICE!!! I say go for it!

"Thank you American for the B Scale"

That was then, now they say "Thank You USAirways for taking three %#$@ing pay cuts, giving so much of your flying to contract lift providers and giving up the pensions."

Besides, when did you last have new hires, I hear you have fifteen year men on the street...whats fifteen years hold at any other airline?

by the way, you did look mahvalus in your flat front grass skirt this weekend...How about when they asked if you were hiding a fishing pole? By the way were those cocunuts real?

If you are making guesses, then it is probably NWA, UAL or probably no one.

Alaska is a distant third.

I believe if Doug Parker goes shopping NW is on the top of his list because the Eagan-based company is in bankuptcy. If not NW then possibly UA because the Chicago-based company is so pro-merger.

I agree, but I think UA is a distant second because they would be in control and calling the shots and US would be the one being aquired.

I am not sure. Maybe I will ask the TWA folks you were so happy to get rid of.

Gaucho99,

If Parker elects to not pursue a Northwest merger due to resistance by Doug Steenland, it would not surprise me to see US Airways pursue United. Parker is not concerned about trying to acquire a larger carrier, Parker is young/ energetic and has a passion to merge, and some people believe Gleen Tilton is trying to sell the Chicago-based airline.

I do agree with you that United would be a distant second choice because their formal reorganization is complete. A combined US Airways-United corporate combination would likely have less total annual synergies than US Airways-Northwest because (as you know) there would be less financial flexibility and less ability to reject excess leases.
