Did you know that the AMEs that work for Qantas are in contract negotiations and Qantas management is not negotiating in good faith. They have refused to pay the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers for their responsibilities in maintaining Qantas aircraft. The AMEs there are in self help so what did the CEO of Qantas do? He is going to shut the airline down! Management would rather... ruin customer loyalty, Qantas brand name and alienate every Qantas employee than deal fairly with the AMEs. I ask that everyone show a sign of support for our fellow craftsmen "Down Under" any way you can. Even if it is just posting this on your FB page. Greed is not only taking place in the US but around the globe. When will TRUE airline executives return to the airlines?

Because QF management is not "negotiating in good faith" as the OP alleged. The only evidence we have of that refusal, of course, is apparently the fact that QF management has not given into labor's demands.

"Refusal to negotiate in good faith" is thrown around here as recklessly and ignorantly as the word "racist" was thrown around by Revs Jackson and Sharpton and their buddies Maddox and Mason during their heyday. If negotiations are ongoing yet management is not surrendering to the demands of labor, many posters here assert that management is refusing to negotiate in good faith.

They have not been striking "on and off" for months they have been trying to negotiate a fair contract like we are at AA but like AA Qantas is run by greedy executives. The AMEs were "working with their left hands only" as a tool in their negotiations which is perfectly legal. This action has not caused cancellations or undue delays. It is management that is jumping the gun and trying to say the AMEs are harming the airline. There is no proof that the AME's actions warrant such a reply from their CEO.

The Qantas CEO doesn't want to negotiate in good faith (sound familiar?) so they will try and drag the Australian government into the fray and hammer their AMEs.

One world greed you got it....Quantas has no reason to neg ,they are busy starting other airlines in China with cheap labor. Watched a whole segment
on it. Management is using same LOGO just different color flags...Guess who pays the executives salaries you got it the old Quantas division.China labor, prison inmates doing the cleaning at night...So much for security....I sure won't set foot on their planes now.Just like i won't DELTA,UAL not even if it's free....I will either fly myself or drive...

Unions ordered back to work, have to reach accord within 21 days or face binding arbitration. Huge win for Qantas and displaced passengers, major dissapointment for unions. Well see the Asian subsidiary come online and hopefully other necessary concessions.

Uh, no. Let's hope it doesn't play out that way at AA. It won't end nearly the same way.

QF had leverage because they're the largest international carrier, and also provide about half the lift domestically, and were shutting off commerce to a country with few alternatives for interstate commerce.

AA isn't essential to the United States. In the 90's, there was an argument that could be made that they provided the only service to some Caribbean and Latin markets, but that's no longer the case. The number of markets where AA is the sole provider of service is probably down to a dozen or less, and those are mostly served by Eagle...
