Our Chp-took His Miles Over To Co

he'll be back, once he finds out it is almost impossible to redeem miles for a standard award, and there is a ticketing fee.

Last week I needed to fly my mother to SFO. I decided to burn some CO miles I had. I was a gold for 5 years, but quit the program a year ago, and only flew one leg with them in 2004.

CO wanted 90,000 mile for a F/C ticket, $75.00 ticketing fee, and I think a change fee if she decided to stay longer, since two legs were on an RJ I didn't book with them.

AA, DL, NW either had ticketing fees and/or double milage charges. Therfore I used som US miles. No fees, 40,000 miles for F/C and no chage fees.

I guess I need to fly US more to build up my miles again.

I agree the planes could be cleaner, and return some of the ammenities would make the US program the absolute best domestically. But what good is a reward program if it difficult to get an award, or paying double of what you expect, or paying $75.00 for a "free" ticket.

This is one of tha many reason I keep on flying US. Since US does not go to all the places I need to go, I fly other airlines as well, so I know firshand what they offer in their programs.

So if he just changed for the program, he'll be back

Everyone wants the world handed to them on a silver platter!
Everyone wants to ALWAYS have their first class upgrade!
Everyone wants US to be their PERSONAL airline!
Everyone wants US to be at their "beck-and-call"...go when I need to go.
Everyone always wants what once was!

Folks everything is changing. Airlines cannot always fly at the exact times that YOU want them to go or give YOU the things that YOU think you deserve as a loyal customer.

Go ahead, run to another airline. It won't be long until they too won't live up to EVERYTHING that you want and think you deserve.

Until recently Amtrak ran a program whereby you could 'launder' your miles, say from CO to UA via Amtrak.

Crazy eh? But true.

I read about a fellow in LHR (a destination I don't think serviced by Amtrak) who massaged his CO ff miles to UA.

Wonder how JakeBrace will explain this one to his potential exit financiers....

I imagine he'll say something like "Every time a member of Amtrak Guest Rewards transfers their points into Mileage Plus we earn hundreds of dollars in fees from Amtrak* and the potential future loyalty of that new Mileage Plus member -- all in exchange for accepting a liability that costs us roughly $20 to redeem." Of course, that's assuming the exit financiers even ask about the frequent flyer progam ...

* Based on the assumption that the minimum transfer from Amtrak Guest Rewards to Mileage Plus was 10,000 points and that United charged Amtrak 1 cent per mile.

Of course, this discussion is largely irrelevant, since the Amtrak to United transfer program no longer exists. Guest Rewards members can still transfer miles into and out of Continental's Onepass.

Welcome to my neck of the woods, Clue.

Might be another short (less than 18 month stay), but I like RDU. The airport is great (pretty good connectivity and fares), taxes are decent, weather certainly beats GLA (and PIT, for that matter).

He'll be back when he finds it near impossible to

1.) redeem points for just about any premium class trip outside the US
2.) score upgrades on *ANY* flight in the CO system.

Even though I work for AA now, I lived in Houston for many years and, of course, flew CO on business. I still maintain my OnePass membership. I've never had a problem cashing in points other than I have to be flexible about departure and return dates.

I particularly like the website feature that will tell you about certain flights to/from your destination that you only have to use half the regular points to book. I went skiing last year during peak season and it only took 20,000 points r-t! I just had to leave a day later than I originally planned and stay an extra day. Oh darn, an extra day skiing. It was torture!
