Okay I guess the moderators missed the sarcasm about the Phillies. Seriously, does anyone have any insider information on how the SandCastle permitted Delta to scoop this charter.

At one time US ran a good amount of charter flights. I would think that they no longer can due to a lack of a spare A/C. The widebody fleet is stretched very thin as it is, so I doubt that any are sitting around for a charter. Delta has a much larger W/B fleet that enables them to shuffle the A/C around for situations such as this. I have worked several charter flights in the past, and the crews have told me that they make a pig-pen of the A/C. I don't think that US should have any A/C livery dedicated to ANY team that doesn't use the Airline. Why advertise for a team that doesn't support your company. If the Eagles want to fly DL, let them paint one of their A/C with the team colors.

In my opinion, Tempe just doesn't know or care to think outside of the box. I bet if it was the diamondbacks, cardinals, or suns they would have been on a US plane!

Since the charter department went West all the prime assignments went to friends and lickers of the new head woman.

Look for the Steelers to bolt next year. Great job Iggy.

In 2004, only a couple of weeks after an estimated three million fans stood outside on a raw, damp day to just get a glimpse of their beloved newly-crowned World Champion Red Sox players, Delta announced that it was becoming the Official Airline of the Boston Red Sox, with non-stop flights from BOS to RSW for spring training. (When the Sox first moved to Fort Myers, USAir used to run MD-80's between there and BOS, full both ways every day.)

Now the team is dickering with Sarasota to maybe move their spring headquarters there. What airline do you suppose will jump at the chance to serve the suddenly-hot BOS-SRQ market if that happens?

Here's a hint:

(Say, if the Red Sox moved their winter headquarters to Philadephia from Fort Myers, then all their fans could get to spring training non-stop from New England...)

AWA hadn't charted the Sun or D'backs for years.
They did do the Cardinals though.
I don't think anything has change on that front since the merger.

The painted planes are strictly a marketing deal and have no relation to chartering a team or not.

If that is the case with the team livery A/C, I would hope that US gets something for thier "Flying billboards".
Years ago, I recall BN having a 727 dedicated to flying all of the Cowboys charters. I remember that it was painted in their colors, and I think that it also had a special seating configuration for the team. After the demise of BN, AA took over their charters and may have also aquired the A/C.
In any case, I think that it is pathetic that US can't have the exposure of flying their home teams in cities such as PHX, PHL,CLT, or any other city where they are the dominent carrier. Seeing the Phils come and go from a major Hub of this Airline on another is just another slap in the face of marketing.

Well I can tell you that a few weeks ago when the Cards were on the East Coast, They DID NOT fly US home after playing the Jets....

How on earth would some of the football players even FIT in the tight seating confines of a coach seat on a US plane??!!

I have had the pleasent experience of packing a Football teams equipment on a DC-9, and it just about fit.

Marshall University had a A321 last Saturday to BHM. There's some chartering going on somewhere.
