Delta will need at least three gates, ATL, SLC and CVG and JFK share one. With ATL going back to hourly, just seems A will be log jammed. All RJ's should use F gates, no matter what airline it is. That would open up some gates in A and D. NW would have made more sense moving than DL.Is the move a done deal? It's nuts that the city is bending over backwards to accomodate Southwest down in D/E to the point they'd move Delta to A, thereby inhibiting future intl. growth.
It's ridiculous to move any airline to A at PHL since they are in need of intl. gates. The opening of A-West opened up a lot of new destinations, but now no more can easily be planned if another DOMESTIC carrier is taking up space in A-East.
I just found out that DL is now set to move before the end of this month and that they are constructing a new Crown Room OUTSIDE of Security. I agree with all of the comments on the rediculousness of moving more domestic to any international gates in A-East and that NW would seem to have been a better choice. What we don't know however, is what if any are DLs future international plans for PHL if their JFK flights are severely curtailed by FAA directive - although I'd expect they would prefer BOS because of their existing presence. I also suspect that this move to A, along with the closeness to Air France is a strategy to significantly increase Sky Team's presence in the Region, particularly if Alitalia actually does start service next Spring.
Yeh, although I knew that, I used the wrong terminology to denote "passed security" as outside, rather than inside.Per this article, they will switch over to A-east starting on 11/12 and the club will be located inside security (I wonder why AA didn't take that space years ago). The article also gives some interesting insight on the whole US/PHL intl gate saga......
