What's new

PHL heavy delays this morning

To be frank, even if you had switched to Sabre, the West side would have had all sorts of issues. I've never seen a system conversion that is flawless or without a "breaking in" period. This is what you're going through now. Give it time, the bugs will be worked out and life will go on.
Are you serious? Your kidding right? 🙄 The SABRE cutover was NOTHING like this. NOT even remotely. Hey, maybe the merger, negotiations, and res cutover ARE going well and I just didn't reallize it. My bad. 🙄 This place is falling apart at the seems to be perfectly honest.

Yes, I'm serious. The business is still running, isn't it? Trust me, I've seen far worse, and, while this is not great, this is nowhere near as bad as it could have been. Reading between the lines, a good deal of the trouble seems to be the "who moved my cheese" syndrome.

Can you please tell the board your working knowledge and length of service working with SHARES/QIK, native SHARES, System One, PACER,CARES,Sabre .So as to credibility

Yes, there would be a learning curve regardless of what side had to deal with the new system. But answer this question:

Would you rather learn how to use a new system where the weather outside is sunny and 75 and you have time to adjust to the new system with ease or where there is a snowstorm causing hundreds of thousands to be rebooked on a system that you do even know how to work under normal ops?

Add to the fact that HP is a small player is every market outside of PHX and LAS. Sure, those stations would have been back-logged but most other HP stations are only dealing with +/- 5 flights a day and the customers would've been inconvenienced little compared to ones in LGA, DCA, BOS, CLT, PHL, PIT, etc or heck, even cities in FL.

The bottom line is this: Wouldn't it make more sense to go with the system that 3/4 of your employees are comfortable with instead of the 1/4?

It certainly would have been easier. I think that choice should have been made. I don't think it should have been done in favoring a particular group either. It would have been best for the company and most importantly our customers and the employees dealing with it. This merger has been filled with nothing but mistake after mistake on so many levels. One arm on the podium and saying "Sorry" doesn't make it go away. It also doesn't make them understand that the changes they CONTINUE to make don't work. It just doesn't make any good sense as to how they think or operate.

I thought the IT department was going to fix the standby list?
It looks better BUT STILL THE SAME OLD WORKING PROBLEMS. And we can officially say OLD PROBLEMS now..

My credibility is I'm a senior IT leader who is responsible for planning integration efforts. I've been doing this for years. In every case, you need to triage the issues and, at some point, simply "pull the trigger" and move forward. Our leadership likens it to pulling out a tooth slowly or pulling it out quickly. Regardless, it's going to hurt the same, just in one case it will hurt long and in the other it won't hurt as long.

US definitely made some mistakes, especially around change management and communication, but I'm not convinced waiting longer or choosing Sabre would have been any better technology-wise. Now, I am also not, nor is anyone on this board, privy to what Tempe's internal discussions were and the decisions around when to go live. For all we konw, they resolve hundreds of issues prior to the cutover that they now get no credit for. We just simply don't know.

As for the other comment about learning during a snowstorm, here's what I have to say: I'm responsible for healthcare IT systems. Training and communication is key. US made mistakes on this front, that I will give you. But, even with all the training we do, there are always issues that crop up in the heat of the moment. In every case, we have trainers on standby to help the clinical staff on the fly.

There isnt even a $250.00 charge in the mix....so what could I do but laugh shake my head and say "Miss Smith its your lucky day"

Then I told a co-worker and he laughed too because he had just up-graded someone to MXP and the QIK crap system charged his pax $300.00?????
Oh yea the bugs are getting worked out alright!!

I had a coworker who sent the QIKFIX in on this last week. It did it again today and only charged the $300 to upgrade (he ended up doing it under a change fee and changing the amount to $500 so we didnt end up LOSING ANOTHER $200!). Anyway, he called a number on the res migration bulletin and spoke to someone who didnt have a clue as to why GOENVOYSLEEPER at $300 instead of GOENVOY at $500 was a problem. (Only $200 off a pop? ) The agent tried to explain the differences and he said FINALLY the guy got it. They will probably be removing the GOSLEEPERENVOY screen so it just pops up the $500 GOENVOY. If someone wants to do the sleeper, you'll have to do it another way. Also the $250 was from last year when the 757s were not Envoy and being sold as coach with extra room. Not sure how you managed to get that to pop up, but that option will probably be eliminated soon as well.
Just another day trying to get the computer to do what it should be doing in the first place.

pro72,

Jesus, this sounds very similiar to Bush/Iraq !!!!!!!

NH/BB's

I have been through many SAP migrations and let me tell you US did it all wrong in my opinion. They failed to get input from the end user, especially the SABRE users. To make things worst they utilized a system which was being used by the minority instead of majority, this would of been fine if they reviewed the needs of the easties and made sure that the new system could do it the same way or better.

In the end I can surely tell you it will indeed cost US much more to stick with QIK/SHARES as oppose to using Sabre.

I didnt manage to get it to pop up with $250 it did it on its own...I hit the upgrade key and thats what it filled in...I tried to change the screen but it doesnt give you the option....also I gave up trying to get it to do what I want...if it wants to charge $250 so be it

This system has taken all control away from the agents...either they think we're too stupid to make any decisions or they dont trust us to do the right thing....which is kinda funny since it is now their program that is screwing up and losing them money!!!!!

I am now just a robot filling in the blanks

The goal of the compnay is stupid agents and/or robots in every position.

They cost less.
