I wanted to use this forum to contact F/A's, Flight Deck, Techs and Mech's, Cleaners; in fact anybody who has legitimate access to an aircraft door, for whom in certain circumstances/actions are able to inadvertently blow a slide. I want to know if you have introduced revised SOP's and they are working. During my research, which has involved many conversations with F/A's and Engineers, it would appear that with all the best intentions, human factors still play a major part in ISD's. Fatigue, interruption and distraction, pressure to get off and onto stand quickly - reasons are numerous.
Reading through the topics I noted that there are claims of disciplinary action being taken eg loss of pay and removed from duty for up to 3 days. Is this normal practice within the industry?
I have spoken too many of the major US carriers to try and convince them that there is a new to the industry system in place to prevent ISD. The problem is 99% of those professionals who know what ISD is and its implications are governed by the 1% that know nothing (eg those holding the purse strings) and do nothing about it.
If you as an F/A could go to work every day and not have to worry ever again about a doors status, because as you went to touch the handle (reverse side only of course) it would notify you of its current state I am sure you would agree it would be a simple but very effective. Take a look at www.aero-smart.com. If you like it, then do something about it - tell your Cabin Safety Managers, Trainers, Engineers etc and give those with the 1% what the other 99% want ' - a safer place to work in'
Any comments please to kevinhicks@aero-smart.com, I would be delighted to hear your feedback and comments - safe flying!
