In Phoenix we have had Randy Canalee' IAM posted. And, apparently, we have have a letter from the company (which I heard was pulled away in a day) stating their position. Does any one else feel we are PAWNS! Why would the union post their position ahead of the meeting? Why, is the union (that is not officially ours) presenting our position, (that we don't necessarily support) assume we would need to STRIKE?
I feel this union is spinning out of control ( as is the company) and need our support or reassurance ahead, of meetings.
Also, it seems in the last US Update, they are requesting a consulting firm to turn things around. What the HECK has this company turned into!

LOL...the UNION..outacontrol?....or the company continuing to stuff it to us on a daily basis...OMG....get your head outa outa there before your suffocate pal.....of course were going to go out on strike, probably by July 4, if not sooner..its all for the best......the cancer needs to be destroyed at all costs before the entire industry is effected by the Parkerism that is so prevalent in the WEST.....LMAO.....

Randy isn't as stupid as you think. He's a fast talking and slick snake oil salesman who "sings like a Canary" but has never ever followed through. Most of us have figured out that he could care less of arbitration, his IAM even 'agreed' with US AIRWAYS to limit any arbitration date to sometime this fall, this after US AIRWAYS went to court and dragged things out for months. It seems obvious that there is alot of 'staging' going on.

So what's happening and why did Canale put out some goofy letter about striking?

1. Everyone knows, the IAM has little to no support for a strike. Basically the IAM collects dues because they can. But they are NOT LEGITIMATE within the culture at US AIRWAYS and precious few would strike for them. This is self evident and I'm sure Randy knows this even though he blows off rhetoric so he can fill his front page messenger mag. So you can forget about a strike.

2. Most importantly. Randy Canale is a UA person. Worked for UA for years, sits or sat on its board, and still may be employed there. This is significant. UA wants a dance partner and since we already know there won't be a successful strike, IMO, Randy may be talking in such a damaging way that he's really trying to scare passengers off of US AIRWAYS and lower the shares even more for a possible UA bid.

4. To further the thought of a pending bid by UA, IMO, the thing the IAM needs is a 'quickie agreement'. This will help secure the dues and the big fat salaries of the Union Bosses.

Remember, THe LAST THING the IAM wants is most likely arbitration. Arbitration is a 'win/win' for US East employees. It's the 'winning lotto ticket' come true.
....BUT the big fat pay raises for the US East workers would create a 'big mess' with merging US west agents, and you could almost forget about it merging with UA agents. Therefore Canale must orchestrate something ahead of time, and if that's manufacturing a pseudo strike and screaming from atop the hill that any arbitration win will take years to get, then so be it.

The Arbitration is such a positive thing of justice, remember, if he was a real leader and had the best interest of US east then he would talk of hope and surround himself with positive talk about arbitration instead of running at the mouth about some goofy strike that can't happen. Puh leeessseeee!

My spin, he's just trying to soften PHL and CLT to the idea of another one of his sellouts. I'm not a psychic but expect a T/A sometime soon. As I've said before, don't expect the IAm to go to arbitration. Again, I have no inside knowledge so take this entire post as 'FWIW'.

regards,

Why on earth would IAM go on strike when they have a winning arbitration in hand?

Canale strike talk is to smooth ruffled west feathers - don't make the mistake of taking him seriously. He did a lot of strike talk when US was facing BK ("the concession stand is closed") that came to nothing, and if there ever a time to strike, that was it.

Canale is stage-managing something, and given his fiduciary ties (believe me, they trump DFR) to UA, a move in that direction would not surprise. IAM has already supported two aborted UA/US mergers, why quit now?

I'll call the shot now - if any UA/US deal occurs, UA fleet will not come out on the short end of the stick.

All the strike talk is a bit premature.

You have to exhaust the RLA before the NMB will let you strike and IAM has just asked for mediation in negotiations.

It will be a long time before you will be allowed to strike.

well, the only was I see it, is the IAm is now taking advantage of the West in section 6. Using the west agents to get to mediation saying the company isnt negotiating in good faith. The only bad thing is its way too late. They should have had mediators in their from the get go, since TWU filed for mediation before the "sellout." Since the NMB has been contacted their will be no more negotiations until they are present so my take is one more year at these wages, atleast.

Subject: What are the issues!

Dear AFL-CIO;

US Airways/AWA members are frustrated with the see-saw antics of the new and not at all resolved merger. We are getting completely mixed messages from union/company. In the WEST/AWA mechanics/fleet, we are getting no where with IAM. Where is any clarification. So far we are on the side of a union/IAM that is loosing!

Either explain the contract or leave us alone! AWA FLEET EMPLOYEES. We can't rely on volunteers!
