May be a stupid question but...Does UA offer relocation benifits if you're hired and moving from a different city?

Depends on the job.... I know a guy hired by UAL that was offered a paid move..If you are union mechanic lets say normally no you wouldn't get a paid move unless UAL caused the move and it was in the union contract to pay like closing a station.

Depends on your position.
CEO's may get a new house, fsc's may get a standby ticket.
Before you move, my recommendation is to ask and get it in writing.

From what I know depends on the position.
I know that many airlines will hire you in whatever city & state that you currently live in. Then depending on your work performance & attendance in 6 months, you can ask for a state to state transfer, but, within one's own personal expense, I don't think an airline will pay for this type of relocation.
I think the only way you can have relocation expenses paid is if your a pilot, flight attendant, or if the airline asks you to relocate. Hope I helped. I often wonder what airlines will and will not do this as well. But, just remember every airline is different & airlines are always changing up. Since I have been trying to break into the aviation industry I have been finding this out big time.

Like the previous posters mentioned, it depends on your job classification and what's in your union contract stating moving expenses. Only people like Jeff gets their moving expenses fully paid.......and then some.

Have you given thought about commuting?

Hi Rifbound,
IMHO, you are a Mechanic at AA looking to get laid off.
Since UAL/CAL has not agreed to a single integration agreement or a joint contract I believe that you are looking at a position as a Mechanic with CAL.S as UAL.S is not hiring.
IIRC, UAL.S has thousands on layoff with lifetime recall rights yet CAL.S still hires fom the street.
Strange that they are both teamsters but are out to screw each other.
If you can, hurry up and get hired with CAL.S as you will probably get a boost in senority like the SWA guys are getting over the AT guys.
As far a relocation costs, as a mechanic, I don't have a clue what it is today.
IMHO, probably nothing, but if I m wrong, please post your experiences.
Good Luck!

Lol, I'm not looking to get laid off, I am going to be laid off. With AFW closing, I don't stand a snow balls chAAnce in hell of staying with AA. I did have an interview with UA and I was just wondering cause it's for a position in a different state. It was for a Tech Ops job that I applied for back in December. They told me about 2-3 weeks before they make any decisions. Standard crap. Just wondering, thanks for the replies btw.
