"This is an important milestone in the development of our company and will allow us to continue to grow and expand our business with the Embraer 170/190 family of aircraft," said Bryan Bedford, Chairman, President and CEO of Republic Airways Holdings.

"We are grateful to our partners in safety at the FAA and the Certificate Standardization Evaluation Team (CSET) for their hard work and collaborative effort. We are very impressed with the total system safety approach the CSET process provides and plan to utilize many of the procedures developed at Republic Airlines at our other subsidiaries," said Wayne C. Heller, executive vice president and COO of Republic Airways Holdings.

Republic Airways Holdings, based in Indianapolis, Indiana is an airline holding company that operates Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America. The company offers scheduled passenger service on more than 840 flights daily to 82 cities in 32 states, Canada and the Bahamas through airline services agreements with four major U.S. airlines. All of its flights are operated under its major airline partner brand, such as AmericanConnection, Delta Connection, United Express and US Airways Express. The company currently employs over 2,900 aviation professionals and operates 28 Embraer 170's and 100 Embraer 145 regional jets.

I am sure this is wonderful news for the folks at Republic but what will it mean for the employees of U that currently work those flights both on the ground and in the air ?
Cities like PIT that work the flights on the ground.

It means that 850 US Airways employees will be laid off to be replaced by contract work. It's outsourcing.

The EMBs are currently ground handled by either mainline or MidAtlantic employees. When they transfer to Replacement Airways they will be handled by Express. PHL and DCA have MAA ground employees who will lose thier jobs or possibly be offered a position with Piedmont or mainline. PIT uses mainline employees so the loss of the EMB handling will likely cause mainline layoffs.

The pilots are in arbitration right now over this deal. RP insists it's a "jets for jobs" deal so they only have to take 50% of the pilots, and as new hires, not honoring thier seniority. All but two of the 341 pilots told them to get lost. All of the pilots are furloughed mainline or flow-through from Allegheny/Piedmont.

The F/As have been offered an "interview" with Republic, no guarantee of employment, no seniority, a lot less money, and they may not even work the 170 or be in the US system or bases. Not a single F/A has applied. All of the F/As are furloughed mainline.

The pilots and the F/As each have lawsuits over the entire "MidAtlantic" sham and the violations US and Republic are doing with this transaction.

A very sad situation for some truly incredible employees, not to mention the deterioration of mainline flying and jobs this will cause in the future.

Its all ok though because if this deal ever does actually go through, and Airways gets the net 30million from the deal. Managements Bonus money will be covered. and that is really the bottom line folks. We must do everything possible to keep management rolling in the dough so they are able to outsource, and rob the middle class Americans into extinction.

Yes, LY, I saw it for what it was when it was first mentioned.

Par for the course at U - management 101 - divide and conqueor.

FWIW, I pushed and shoved as hard as possible to get on the MAA committee at the IAM. Coming from a class II situation, I was sensitive to being sold out.

Of, course, they wouldn't let me anywhere near it.

And, what happened at the class II stations has now arrived at MAA.

You have my condolences, because y'all certainly deserved better.

Dont forget that it is not over yet. Yes it looks bad, but the deal is NOT done, and besides that CHQ will NOT get the 190's as both America West and LOA 93 are very clear. NO OUTSOURCED 190's I think the scum in managment think if they say it enough it will be true.

ALL OR NONE!!!!!!

Coincidentaly, the E190 also got certified today... A full-size, narrowbody 100 seat jet to be flown by JetBlue mainline but outside contract carriers at US... Unbelievable.

EMBRAER 190 Airliner Awarded Type Certification By Brazilian Airworthiness Authority

U.S. certification is expected shortly, allowing deliveries to commence for JetBlue

São José dos Campos, news released to the media on August 30, 2005 – Embraer announced today it has been granted type certification for the 100-seat EMBRAER 190 airliner on schedule from the Brazilian certification authority Centro Técnico Aeroespacial (CTA).

The type certificate was presented to Embraer in a ceremony held at its headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil. CTA certification will shortly be followed by type certification for the EMBRAER 190 in the U.S. by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), paving the way for deliveries to begin to launch-customer JetBlue in North America.

The certification campaign used five pre-series EMBRAER 190 jets, consumed approximately 1,800 test flight hours, and involved the production of more than 970 reports as well as thousands of development and supporting documents. An additional 140 tests were conducted in laboratories and ground test simulators.

The EMBRAER 190 is the third in Embraer’s new four-member jet family to receive type certification. The EMBRAER 195, last in the family, is expected to be certified in mid 2006.

The EMBRAER 170/190 family logged 412 firm orders and 373 options as of June 30, 2005.

Issuance of a type certificate by the Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is expected to follow shortly.

Great job in describing the situation MAA employees find ourselves in, LightYears...I was so excited when I was called back (recently) to work for this company, but this was NOT the ending I had in mind! So, let's all stick together with the pilot and FA lawsuits, and fight for what's right!
