Reuters: UAL cancels flights

A one trick pony, thats for sure. Never a positive or non venomous post. All the hate is directed to AA, not CAL or DAL. Only one good reason for that. Couldnt meet the hiring standards at AA.

Mikey, Mikey, Mikey.... How many times do i have to tell you, I have never interviewed or even tried to be employed by AA... I don't speak hate, only truth, and that is something that posters at AA can't usually handle.. I post on DAL US CAL and many other threads, but right now you are on my thread, and speaking venom yourself, also making false assumptions on "My" individual carriers thread... I am not Ex-TWA either, but for the record, those people have every right to be angry. Too bad it took a bill to be passed for them to get extended recall rights... Anywho, the fact is, you dont like facts or even possibilities, and the truth is you know what is about to happen, and it scares the crap out of you, so you have to come on here and hate on other people, which is typical fashion for you and many of your fellow posters... You know all those times you posted how UAL was being sold off in pieces ( which could happen ) - then BAM, you get smacked with an open handed slap with the sale of Eagle.. Now, once again, another slap with Claires new push for the "no-staple law" shall we say?? We will see what happens in 08... But I know you don't like to hear what I have to say, so I won't say it.. Good Luck and I hope you have a Happy New Year too FAMikey!!!

DTTB........you make me laugh. Get over your self and move on. UA is a great carrier. AA is a great carrier. To large companies fighting to survive. Too bad UA has a cancer like you holding them down. Sometimes I think you are probably Mrs. Tilton

Reagrding the TWA F/A's and their anger...as far as I know they were offered a dove tail of 1 to 4. But Ms. Cooper and the their national union pres said "NO" Thus we all know the outcome of their no.

NHBBs, now lets get serious, Most people on this board are easy to bait, most of the time I am not... Unfortunately, I have to respond with my opinion, otherwise you would think AA is taking off to SYD on a 747 or something like that... The things people think these days... Have a good new year NHBBs...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
beauty, as I'm pretty sure you know, you believe me, when I say, ...That I can't get real PISSED at you.
Don't confuse THAT to mean, I won't "jump on your Shet" most of the time !!
NOW,
I'm going to TRY a somewhat different approach with you today.
I'm going to give you a "look inside" the Psycie(SP?) of a "tenured" AA employee/retiree.
But first, ....The admission that I know you MOST want to hear(read).
Are we AAers AArrogant ???????..............................ABSOLUTELY !!!!!!!!
(If you think you are tenacious now...And YOU ARE, .......You would be 2 times more, if you had been with AA for a number of years)
Here's why;
We had the GREAT fortune to have been "raised/taught" by the meanest SOB this Industry has EVER seen, and Will NEVER see again !..................Our daddy.....(uncle) Bobby...CRANDALL !
The only time he wasn't PORKIN" us $$$$ , was when he was PORKIN' some outside entity, who was TRYING to PORK us(Including the US Government) :up: :up:
Now when I say, that "we had the great fortune", I mean that, not everything in this Industry is measured in $$$$$(believe it or not)
CRANDALL led by example. He use to do "road shows", called presidents conferences, and believe me...They WERE PACKED, and loaded with a LOT of people who HATED uncle BOBBY !!
They hated him,..BUT...they RESPECTED him !!!!!
There are things happening TODAY, that HE forecasted 15 years ago !!!!
(And oh, by the way....CRANDALL "hand picked" Arpey, right out of business school, before the Ink was dry, on his MBA !!)
You can site "numbers" all you want ...beauty,....but we'll be here...WAITING for you to show/tell us, when(actually IF) we as a Company are DOA.
Well there you have it....beauty,.........do with my info, as you choose.
All I can genuinely advise you is,..........If you are a Betting $$$$ person....Don't Ever bet against AA,...cause if you do.....you WILL lose !
Not to get back on the topic or anything, :unsure: but as it's been said, clearly UAL's management is reaping the seeds of its staffing woes. Just as UA cancelled many more flights for every one AA flight at ORD, it took forever for things to get back up and running at DEN, UA's second-largest hub. Dozens of UA flights were still getting cancelled while delays at F9 were running 20-25 minutes (admittedly, Frontier's ops are only about 50% of United's in terms of numbers of flights).
Or BETTER yet!!... How about a SUPER80 to MHT :shock: :lol:
Gee Magsau has been AWFULLY quiet here... guess he's too busy spending all his time and energy flamethrowing on the Southwest board.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Ray",

Jusy my 2 cents worth, but Magsau is a "worthy opponent" on these boards.
Controversial ???,................perhaps,..but I've always found him "jousting" with Facts and Figures firmly in hand !

It seems like every holiday season, there's one airline that is clearly not up to the task; this year's honor for that distinction goes to UA. In the last few years, US had the PHL baggage/flight meltdown and DL had the huge CVG meltdown. Numerous canceled flights and mountains of lost bags are the hallmarks.

Here's another article from today criticising UA:

United flight cancellations outpace rivals

Wednesday January 2, 2:48 pm ET
By Kyle Peterson

CHICAGO (Reuters) - United Airlines canceled dozens of flights on Wednesday after 10 days of weather-related problems forced the No. 2 U.S. carrier to scrap more than 1,100 flights.

UAL Corp's United canceled more than four times as many flights as its closest competitor, AMR Corp's American Airlines, since a December 23 storm hit its Chicago hub.

United had canceled 58 flights as of Wednesday afternoon, compared with 78 on Tuesday. The cancellation rate, while lower than the peak rates last week, is tracking well ahead of rivals, according to data from FlightStats.

That's a huge meltdown over the last couple of weeks. Wonder when UA will get things moving dependably?

I found the following quote in the Reuters article to be interesting:

United disputed ALPA's claim, saying it had 115 more pilots in December than it did a year earlier. That equates to a 2 percent increase in the number of pilots, despite a 1.5 percent decrease in flying, United's McCarthy said.

"The fact is that we have better pilot staffing levels than we've had in recent years," she said.
This brings up a few questions:

1. Are the pilot numbers quoted above accurate?
2. If so, are still more pilots needed, and how many?
3. If the quoted numbers are not accurate, why not?
4. Are there too many pilots for some aircraft types while not enough for others?
5. Are there not enough reserve pilots, or are they not in the right places when major storms hit one or more of UA's hubs?
6. Did many pilots reach their weekly, monthly and/or annual maximums for flying hours in late December?
7. Would more pilots have made a meaningful difference in UA's cancellation rate (i.e., would the additional pilots have been in the right locations at the right times to significantly limit the cancellations)?
8. Did many pilots simply decide that they would do no extra flying during the holidays if they weren't already scheduled to do so?
9. Is the pilot workforce about the right size for UA's current flying but UA simply doesn't know how to properly schedule its pilots?
10. Finally, were these truly weather-related cancellations that couldn't be avoided regardless of pilot staffing levels at UA, thus making ALPA's claims merely a reflection of a more militant union leadership trying to flex its muscles? (I'm not trying to minimize the sacrifices made by UA's workers over the past few years, but I do think this is a legitimate question.)

I'm simply trying to get a better understanding of why this happened to UA, and I believe the answers to these questions would help me to do that. Feel free to address any other issues that might have also affected the cancellation rate. Thanks in advance for any insights that can be provided, especially by any UA pilots or operations personnel.
