Mishaps don't get reported. So far while the strike has been on there have been zero fatalities.
Most of the time diversions receive very little press. Mostly in the paper of the city where the flight diverted to.
Remember, I may not work in the airline industry but travel frequently. I've seen the fire dept meet NW smokers on a frequent basis at MSP and not for a retiring pilot.
I've been on several A320 flights back to MSP where there was a sudden plane change for mechanical reasons - the record was 5 return flights in a row. I was on a A320 from mdw to msp where on flap retraction after takeoff there was a horrible grinding noise that made the line for the lav very long for the entire flight.
I've had a coworker sitting in a 9 waiting to take off when another 9 landed with the gear up.
I've had a coworker on a 10 flying LGW-MSP-LGW when part of the overhead ceiling fell on passengers in flight.
All on the union mechanic's watch.
