By passing a state immigration law, he added, Arizona had “moved to protect its sovereignty — not in contradiction of federal law, but in complete compliance with it.”
But, “if securing its territory in this fashion is not within the power of Arizona, we should cease referring to it as a sovereign state.”
I agree with Scalia and since I live in Arizona it is important to have a justice like him that will stand up for our sovereignty. If I have to clear Customs when I return from Mexico then everyone else should have to do the same. I obey Mexico's laws, fill out their entry forms and clear Customs when I visit. I leave my firearm at home because it is illegal to carry weapons across the border and could be put in a Mexican prison like other Americans being held today.
It goes both ways. Mexico has the right to enforce their laws and the United States should not trample on the rights of border states to enforce ours.
