Seahawks Charter diverts to MSP.

Now they are saying over at on the news that is was due to the crew running out of time.
 
how could delta allow a crew whose about to time out fly the plane some 3k miles across the country instead of bringing in a fresh crew...   lets see wt defend this one..    sounds like crew scheduling error to me???????  
 
He will blame the new FAR 117.

I can't imagine 117 came into play here (or at least I hope not??)...  Even "regular" charters are closely coordinated to make sure that sort of thing is avoided. Certainly one as high profile as this would get extra attention?

Yep.. the crew dutied on at 0600 in ATL and flew the plane (ship 128) up there. They spent 3:19 on the ground in the turn, then 2 hours deicing and subsequently ran out of time. MSP was as far as they could get (hub wise) with their allowable duty day. It had nothing to do with payload or headwinds.
 
 
Figures it was a duty time issue - I didn't think a 763 would have a fuel issue on a mere transcon flight.
 
Why would they use an ATL based crew with the known weather issues in the NY/NJ area, when they have a crew base at JFK/LGA with qualified pilots, they knew the crew was going to time out and could only go as far as MSP.
 
I bet the NFL and the Seahawks are not happy.
 
Because an airline with a major charter operation will schedule that charter's crew a month before that charter.Meaning that leg was built inside a bidded rotation.What should have happened is that it should have been altered because of the possibility of a weather delay. The charter scheduler should have caught this. Not good.

DL is official charter airline of sf and sea .Normally this kind of charter,like the nba charters, are part of a rotation. Bid packages are done for February three weeks ago. So they knew that there would be a charter involving one of those two teams.
