Okie Dokie......I don't often have then time to get into these sites and exchange pleasantries. What caught my attention with this topic was I saw similar questions being asked in the Aero Ad's. com site a year ago and it appears it hasn't gone away.

83 and counting ( last time I do this I promise)

More fuel for the fire............................

I copied below an early post I made on this topic - which partially goes to explain the low rates - not sure what percentage of tariff would go to insurance though - it does seem like they are seriously trying to get control of the west by being the low bidder.

"....the Mustang machines are owned without financing and there is no hull insurance on them, allowing them to cut rates"

I tried to dig up an old news release on the 3 yr contract Mustang got with Parks Canada at Wood Buffalo, could only get the following exerpt:

"RED DEER, AB : Minister McLellan announces awarding of $984,855
contract to Mustang Helicopters Ltd.: 5 jobs maintained (contract-Mustang)"

That was for three years for a 350B2, I understood the wet rate was $1000. Also Anne McLellan praised Mustang for giving such a low bid! Also it is curious that so many Mustang machines were on the Parks Canada contracts and even their machines that came late stayed late vs the usual first called last cut.

That being said, I'll repeat what was said earlier, those guys from Mustang flying and wrenching at the fires for Mustang were top notch and so were their machines -so, go figure!

All I can say is :stupid:
It sure would be nice to know how these people think, or maybe not.
Well It'll be a interesting winter. As 407driver has mentioned before with the heli-skiing
in CYRV, I hope they have some talented drivers or it could be messy. They wont make much money with out Haul insurance.

$1,000 wet for a B2 in the summer, excellent rate, we get more for our 206BIII's.
Look at the bright side though, the old CHW is not the "cheapest" game in the west anymore   MacKay will be slashing rates when he hears this.....

   Big Duke were did you hear that VIHL was laying off 3 full time guys??? Reliable source??

First post at this site and agree whole heartedly with firehawk and 407. Venture let drivers go and did the big paycut after everybody busted ass all summer and made up for the previous losses. They have a great crew of all western boys and lots of mountain experience and whack in comes that eastern influence and it goes to hell. It should be intersting to see how it all plays out, but it sure is all for the greed factor. :stupid:

...well, Steve Matthews WAS trained at CHW, enough said?

I can't wait for the fireworks when the local Heli-Ski Hun gets PQ flatlanders showing up next month to Ski. Hey Big Duke, it should be entertaining, you must know about his "glowing" personality? 😀

The last that I heard, the skiing in the Stoke will be run under Venture's OC, the main reason they bought into VHL. So I would imagine that there will be a couple of reasonable mountain guys there. They had better have some experience there, as the Stoke can have some fun weather during the winter. 😉

Cheers

I know a few of the Venture boys. My understanding is that one full-time guy laid off and one full-time asked to go contract. (both good guys) The pay scale will be changed in January. Sounds like the monthly will be reduced and the hourly goes up. The pilots I talked to don't sound to unhappy with the deal. I don't know if there are any changes with the engineers.

Hey Putz, (I sure hope that is a loving handle 😛 ) I heard from an extremely reliable sorce that lay off's were forcasted for some full timers at VHL (venture Helicopters Ltd.) not VIHL. I have talked to some of there ski and drill pilots and things don't appear as bad as they sound on this forum. However, let time be the judge of that. I personally would like to see all of these helicopter companies do well. Nobody wants to see people lose ther jobs, I don't care who you work for. Unfortunaley the industry has shown in the past that these buisness ideaologies of lowering Tarriff's to try and obtain or secure contracts with the hope of making up that profit margin sometime in the future, doesn't work ie, NMH, Peace, Okanagan, Associated to name a few. Once again, the people that pay the price are the guys trying to make a living.

Heir 407, Ve gates. Ya ve shall see how zis vinter will play out.... Das Verbouden! 😀 And ya very familiar with the whole "glowing personality".

😱 Don't mean to prove a point but, just heard VHL Chief pilot is leaving. Time will prove it's self, once again. 🙁

I know that vhl let 3 full time pilots go after offering them contract work:just before Christmas here, due to work slowing down. They cut the rates on the other pilots after they had made the larger monthly salaries in the summer, an a low low hourly rate. Thinking that the higher monthly money would help the pilots over the slow months. It seems as though an ax is prefferable to this management team, who is sleeping with the enemy. After talking with a few of the pilots there, they are not even remotly happy with the deal or how there fellow pilots were dealt with.

I knew the engineers at Mustang were walking also.Their chief engineer left rotary wing altogether they said.Too many chiefs and no indians I hear......
