What's new

Selling so far

These days I am not flying US unless I absolutely have to. In the event that I end up in coach and I bring my own drink on board. Will I get charged for a cup of ice?
Put this one in the "DFQ category!!!!!!

Seems there is a little secret that FA's like this new procedure as it is much less work for them.

I view it as there is something seriously wrong with an airline if it needs to charge for drinks to survive. You don't always have to charge someone for every little feature, it is nice to just say here "have a glass of water or soda keep ur money in your pocket we appreciate you flying with us." Customers remember those little things and when it comes time for them to purchase airfare they will pick the less stingy airline as all airfares are close to the same.

what is "embarrassing" is my annual social security statement that shows a steady decline in my income. If the new a la carte pricing initiative helps to transform our company and helps to position US Airways as an industry survivor then I'm all for it. If this new initiative aids in preventing the company from coming to us (not that we have anything left to give) for further concessions then I'm right there drinking the a la carte Kool-Aid.

I HEAR YA! When I get my annual social security statement I go into a depression for a week! I say sell all the cokes and charge for all the bags you want but stop coming after my paycheck.

It's a new world out there and we'd better get used to it....

And by the way I don't see our loads dropping off any in my station since these policies went into effect.

My 2 cents....GF

The kettles will fly the cheapest airline that pops up on priceline.com. PERIOD.

It's the FF's we have to worry about. We need a "business select" model like WN to lure them back...

I was just on priceline checking flights round-trip from phx to atl. US, United, Delta, Co the price was all the same for coach class. Why would I pick US if there is no difference in price and I'm going to get nickle and dimed for everything?

It's based on the human element principle which US clearly doesn't have. Charging for drinks is nothing more than an act of desperation and it will not save the company no matter what fluff managment says.

And, when will you participate in the "profit"?

If this helps the company to stay around we all do profit!

every flight crew Ive talked to since that operation began....well they arent doing well period and the crews thinks it is flat out stupid.

Don’t you think the results may be directly related to the crews attitude?

Im not sure All i know is is that they have said that they are not doing hardly any sales. they seem to have a great attitude on the ground but once up in the air I dont know.

It is pretty easy to not sell something if you don't want to.

Those specifically working in any aspect of sales generally have associated commissions and gains for successfully pushing any product. What possible incentives do any of the FA's have for energetically and enthusiastically hustling drinks aloft?..Stock optons maybe?..A fair and decent contract perhaps? Be serious for a change.

Huh? like their first class sections and inflight enterainment maybe?

No...like not charging for cokes and shiz for the FF...

Also, giving them a seat preference.....

From what I understand...besides the larger seats, our FC service is nothing to write home about anyway....

Here is another phenomenon that is kinda getting old, very fast.

10 People bought drinks, but about 40 asked for a cup of ice. By the time I get to a potential sale, I don't have any ice left. Everyone is chewing on the ice, sucking the water out of it. It already got me to start making 'smart ass' comments in the aisle.

Soon you'll see me telling customers that I will bring them ice 'if/when' I have some left over.

"Cheap ass bastards."

Magic...you may be right but I think it's still a low priority. IMO, the kettles look for #1 price, #2 times, #3 conx cities, if there are any. Some ppl may prefer to conx thru CLT rather than ATL, for example. But, YES I do agree the ala carte pricing will determine some kettles choices it's just to what degree we disagree on.

Doing your best should be incentive enough. It is what America is founed on. There are plenty of jobs out there where people have to sell things without any commison. Quit being such a marter!

PHL-PBI I was told to cough up $2 for a damn cup of ice...I gave her an earful in the Galley in a respectful manner, she apologized and said there was a "west" observer in my row...

Sure enough the person in my row was an us west employee, I chatted the perp up and told him that he had better things to do than to write people up for nefarious things...

If you want a cup of ice, just go to the rear galley and ask later if they actually ask for $2 during the push/pull or if they're lazy like Republic crews and just walk around and ask you to push the call button if you want a drink.
