Does anyone know if Amadeus is related to SHARES? Way back in the late 1980's America West used System One, later the name was changed to SHARES. Now I see that EDS owns SHARES, but System One merged with Amadeus. If they are close to the same system, I was wondering why we do not go to Amadeus along with some of our Star Alliance partners?

With all the rest of the SA moving towards a single common system (Amadeus), it would make sense for us to do that also. If we choose not to we deserve to be thrown out . We have chosen to go our own direction and ignore the standards the the alliance has agreed upon. We don't keep up with standards now. So I'm surprised we are still members. If Tempe really wants to upgrade US they need to get with the program and make the necessary decisions to move this airline up and forward , instead of down and out. The move to shares was not a prudent and wise decision , it is a reflection of the bad decision making arrogance creates, and Tempe is nothing if not arrogant.

Don't know about any merger between System One and Amadeus. System One was originally Continental's automated reservation system (however, it might go back to Eastern). Amadeus was the major European automated reservations system. CO sold System One, just as AA sold Sabre.

IIRC, Amadeus always was a joint effort among the major European airlines; so, there never were any "unique to a particular airline" idiosyncrasies to it.

There was something in the back of my mind that said that System One was originally Eastern, but I couldn't remember the detail. Now that you've mentioned it, I remember the deal was written up in the Houston papers. I was living in Houston then.

It has been reported on this board that US has decided not to go with use of Amadeus. This is not a *A requirement, just a goal (albeit an important one). I don't think UA is going to be getting rid of Apollo in favor of Amadeus. Then again, Apollo works pretty well.

Oh, and PI's version of System One was indeed called CARE (don't remember what is stood for); not be confused with the system by the same name that US later used in the central rez offices. Not at the ATO. (I'm not sure exactly what it did though. A GUI overlay in some sort?)
