Everyone who gets up in the morning and goes to work is an "economic slave".

Our "slavemasters" are those who buy our products or services.

Its called free market capitalism!

Exactly - the higher up you are, the more your compensation depends on company performance "C level" executives can have up to 50% of their compensation tied to performance.

For small business owners like myself, we are the ultimate slaves. My business can fluctuate wildly depending on how the public demands my services, and there are also factors beyond my control - changes in market demand, and overall health of the economy. Its my responsibility to adjust my services - price, scope and reach, change my marketing plan, or get out of the business entirely if my services are no longer in demand.

FYI - I'm a partner in a small consulting firm.
