CNN reported today that Southwest blew an aircraft off a runway today. Anyone have any specifics?

Southwest Airlines plane sustains minor damage after landing
ASSOCIATED PRESS

Sunday, May 25, 2003

AMARILLO, Texas — A Southwest Airlines plane sustained minor damage when its front landing gear apparently collapsed shortly after landing late Saturday, an airline official said.
The plane, flight 2066 from Las Vegas, appeared to have landed properly about 9:30 p.m. CDT, said Ed Stewart, Southwest senior director of public relations. However, shortly after landing, a strong gust of wind pushed the plane off the runway. The pilot was able to bring the plane back onto the runway, but the landing gear failed afterward.
"We are investigating whether it was a microburst," Stewart said. "Weather was definitely a factor."
None of the 63 customers or five crew members was injured, Stewart said.
Passengers were met at the plane, a Boeing 737, by buses and taken to the terminal.
The plane was removed from the runway shortly afterward, but the runway remained closed Sunday morning until some damaged lights could be replaced, Stewart said.
Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board were expected to look into the accident.

Art; I''m sure you are correct. The NTSB will certainly find it was "atmospheric error"

One thing the "Hud" part of Texas has no shortage of is wind...
(That''s the ''Panhandle''--a lot of said classic 1962 film was shot in and around Claude, which is just east of AMA.)

kiowa, I just spent an overnight (Sunday) in AMA. I got a ride on a tug and viewed the A/C. It was not "minor" damage, but is able to be repaired. The A/C departed the runway and the Capt. got it back! The nose gear collapsed into the FWD cargo bin and also the avionics bay. The radios ceased to work and due to the DRIVING RAIN, nobody on the ground could see where the A/C was! The F/O called the station on his cell phone and equip. was dispatched immediately to their location. All pax were offloaded w/out injury via airstairs and bused to the terminal.I got this info from the source! I also checked out the A/C from the outside! From my discussions with the local SWA employess that were there at the time (6!!!), I am very impressed.

He could have called res. (800-IFLYSWA) and got the number for Ops.

The local numbers for all stations are listed in the Flt Ops Manual (which each pilot carries in their flight kit).

Chris, did you happen to notice the tail number of the aircraft?

Unfortunately, the tail number does not consist of two digits or bigin with a "1"!

I think it was 434 or 432! I did know,, but after posting in yahoo have forgotten. I mistakenly posted to only the original poster via private email. If you are a memeber, I''m sure you can figure it out via the posts. I am sure it was a -300 with 4 as the first tail #. Sorry, I have had some family stuff going on since my original post.

Chris

Very Clever, I was joking as to how the F/O had the phone number or if he called local "information" via "411". I am well aware of A/C registration/tail #''s and how they work.

Chris

spanky, my last post was for you. I should have addresssed it. My bad, but read it and be aware I am not an idiot.

I thought Spanky meant it''s too bad the aircraft involved wasn''t one of the old -200s...
