Spot The Northwest Flight Attendant

Despite some distorted sense of wanting to portray that DL is run by former NW mgrs, a quick look at the bios of DL's execs
http://news.delta.com/index.php?s=18&cat=40
shows that none of the E level mgrs at DL came directly from NW and only two of the VPs listed came directly from NW - and both are in support, non-customer contact positions so they really don't have the effect that you might want them to believe: Gov't affairs and IT.

It is also worth noting that even though several of the VPs and higher have experience at NW, almost all left NW for other industries prior to coming to DL.

At the same time, there is mgmt that "did time" at CO and AA among US airines... and DL is no more considered a clone of CO or AA. There are also executives from Pan Am... not sure who remains from Western but there were execs from there as well.

The most influential people on DL - finance, network/revenue mgmt, and human resources (who is driving DL's strategy on the representation issues, BTW) never have worked for NW.

The execs responsible for customer contact and frontline employees are all PMDL people.

It is time to recognize that Delta Air Lines is the surviving company - it was agreed to by the Boards of both companies - and the culture of Delta will be a blend of NW. The contribution of NW people will be proportional to the size that NW was relative to DL at the time of the merger. Further, normal attrition and replacement means that NW's influence will diminish as the time from the merger increases - just as it has with Pan Am and Western - and Northeast before.

Did each of those mergers and acqusitions shape what DL is today, including in culture? Absolutely. Is the DL of today more like the culture of those airlines prior to those mergers? I don't think it's even close.

BTW, on my recent flight I noticed the service had items that were just a bit different from PMDL.... a clear reflection that the NW influence is taking place - but hardly representative of a complete loss of what PMDL was previously. And I would dare say that the influence of NW procedures is probably more pronounced in in-flight than in just about any other part of the company.

Another brilliant non-answer.

One last time: What was your intent in posting this article?

Wrong again.

BTW, that's 2 gross errors in judgement in a row for you...

Shall i dig up more???

... Knock yourself out...

Why not save yourself some time, and read the following?

Well then, just for you, I stand correct and apologize for misjudging you.

You still haven't answered my question, BTW...

Nice spin there Kev. Why did you not attack other posters like the link I provided (in you own words) rather you just stirred the pot?

What answer are you looking for as you have already formulated one for me. Knock yourself out on your conspiracy theories. I have a much thicker skin then others. Why can't you discuss the content of the article rather then attack me?

You're gonna need to clarify this for me. I recognize all those words as English, but they make no sense.

What answer are you looking for...

A simple one: What was your motive in posting this article? I can't make it any easier than that.

Why can't you discuss the content of the article rather then attack me?

Because it has nothing of merit to discuss. One guy's alleged (and anecdotal) experience doesn't justify a broad statement, and certainly doesn;t make it factually accurate. To me, it seems like nothing more than cheap PR for his "consulting" business.

This would be akin to me saying "all PMDL F/A's are like Stepford wives" and basing it on the relatively few PMDL F/A's I've come in contact with. We both know that's not true.

Oh, and I'm not attacking you; I'm asking for some insight into your rationale for posting this, and why you think it bodes ill for the carrier. For someone who repeatedly talks about her "thick skin" you sure are getting defensive. What gives?

Think what you want Kev, I was unaware that you were the gate keeper of the forum. I will try to keep that in mind when I happen to run across an article that may wound your fragile disposition.

Assuming you read the article -and based on your response(s) to it- I 'think" you either have zero critical thinking skills, or an ulterior motive. Since you've never struck me as dumb, I'm going with the latter. Which is it?

Enlighten me.

Wow Kev, you really are wounded. I'm very sorry if I have offended you. I mean that sincerely.

OK...OK! Time to lighten things up a little. Read the following:

A pilot was sitting in an airport lounge at the bar and a beautiful flight attendant came in and sat a couple of chairs away from him. He wanted to introduce himself and get to know her since he was looking at a lonely overnight stay and wanted some company. He thought he would start the conversation by talking about her airline, but since she had a raincoat on he couldn’t tell what airline she worked for. He leaned over and said, “Something Special in the Air”, thinking she might work for American. She rolled her eyes and didn’t say a word to him. He leaned in closer and said, “Fly the Friendly Skies”, thinking then it might be United Airlines. She took a sip of her drink and acted annoyed.

Finally he used the Delta slogan and said, “You’ll love the way we fly”. Then she turned to him and said angrily, “What the F*** do you want?”. “OH” pilot said, “you work for Northwest!”

either way you look at it, it is not a good article for Delta. We are all one now.

Indeed. And if this guy thinks there is a game like this out there, so do other customers. I hope it has little truth to it. However, if I were not given the same quality service on a Delta flight that I have always had, sans a Connection flight here and there, I would be sending a message to inflight services without a doubt.
