SWA International Service from PHL

§301-10.133 What is a U.S. flag air carrier?

An air carrier which holds a certificate under 49 U.S.C. 41102 but does not include a foreign air carrier operating under a permit.

US Flag Air Carriers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order for a flight to be in compliance with the Fly America Act, the code of a U.S. flag air carrier must be noted as part of the flight number on the airline ticket, flight coupon (boarding pass), or passenger receipt. Each airline has a two letter alpha code. For example, United Airlines has a code of "UA". On an airline ticket, boarding pass or passenger receipt, this two digit code is designated just to the left of the flight number. From this list, you will be able to compare airline codes on the ticket with those on the list and thereby be able to ascertain whether or not the flight is on a US Flag air carrier.

A detailed list of U.S. flag air carriers is set forth below:

· Airtran Airways (FL)
· Alaska Airlines (AS)
· America West Airlines (HP)
· American Airlines (AA)
· American Trans Air (TZ)
· Continental Airlines (CO)
· Delta Airlines (DL)
· Frontier Airlines (F9)
· Hawaiian Airlines (HA)
· Midwest Express (YX)
· Northwest Airlines (NW)
· Southwest Airlines (WN)
· Spirit Airlines (NK)
· United Airlines (UA)
· US Airways (US)

See above to prove your post wrong, sorry to sadden you.

Southwest has indicated its intenet to begin international service within the next 2 years. If they said it, I believe it.

Looks like Southwest will be changing the way they do business in the near future.
Wonder what has changed their minds from being a domestic carrier only [for the last 30 yrs. or so], to consider flying some International Routes ?

From What I remember Gary Kelly saying out our message to the field was we had an aggreement with ATA not to fly international for a few years more. Once that agreement is over, who knows?

Higher fares they can get. To discount seats across the pond will still be highly profitable. They see that US goes over there, why not them.

Umm, why would I be sad? Last I looked, WN had not been certified as a flag carrier, so I misspoke. Get over yourself.

Last you looked ehh? I'm sure that was NEVER. Don't hate, ok? SWA is not your enemy.

I am curious why everyone thinks PHL will be the focus of WN international service.

BWI would be far more advantageous for their operation. SFO also has a lot of space with an unused terminal 2, including their old customs setup.

The WN model has been based on opening a new station with multiple flights from multiple cities. The concept of PHL-xxx or BWI-xxx contradicts the most successful applications of the part of the model that continues to work well.

Unless the 737NG gets ETOPS rated, my guess is that the first "international" destinations would be SJU and STT from FLL, TPA, BWI, ISP and PVD.

man everytime you hear.. OH DID YOU HEAR WN IS GOING THERE AND ALSO GOING HERE>>> WHO CARES. let them. its a new playing field these days. let them go international.. they have to. they have run out of places to fly to domestically. how many more flights do we need to lax las san sea etc and please dont forget the american public doesnt have enough service to FLORIDA... so they go international .. great. US is in much a better situation now than it has ever been. granted these are labor issues to be addressed. US can compete over the water with the rest. we need to upgrade our international inflight product like it used to be when we won awards for it. if anything WN brings passengers off the bus and train and puts them into our flying bus and train. what is it with this PHL international WN thing. all they will do is cut into a seasonal pie. BWI is a better fit and US is no way no how going to run from PHL domestic or international like we did in BWI in 1992. if they want ISP MHT PVD etc you are talking a summer stint not a year round stint. also remember we are in STAR ALLIANCE a very important membership when it comes to international.. big time...

BTW to add. WN doing anything out of TPA or FLL has proven not to work going to the caribbean. especailly FLL. US tried to do FLL but the airport cannot handle international or anymor international the terminal is not suited for more capacity thats why US pulled out of the FLL latin america service.. no room. Spirit is trying it now because of brain child ex VP Marketing BB Ben Baldanza of ex US fame. he is their president as we all know and trying it.. and coming from Spirit employees loads are not good even for 79.00 fares to the caribbean. they cancel and you are screwed because you cant rebook on anyone else.. oh well you get what you pay for. and no one wants to go up against AA in MIA..
