I just hope the New USAirways under the "leadership" of Doug Parker can finally hold off WN for a change.
SpinDoc replies:
Why DON'T we just give them PHL. It's a POS airport anyway, and the cost of operating there with delays and poor quality workers far outweighs the "purported" higher revenues. Make PHL a US International hub with a rationalized schedule timed to meet the International schedule. The heck with trying to make it a fully operational hub.
How about going on the offensive for a change?
SpinDoc replies:
Yes. Why not match them one for one EMB-170's to their B737's on the routes they fly from PIT, PHL, and the rest, and eat their lunch with lower costs? And while we're at it, we could rebuild PIT as a domestic connecting hub.
The operational costs in PIT are MUCH lower than PHL.
Their vaunted fuel hedges won't last forever.
SpinDoc replies:
Exactly. Their hedges will run out before they kill US or any other competitor, and then we'll see just how difficult it will be for them to compete on a level playing field.
SpinDoc comments:
I'll be so glad when I'm finally away from this crazy mixed up industry in early 2006. It's just not a good industry to work in anymore.
And you'll note that WN will be getting DL's gates in E.
That's because the freaking city is looking to put DL in A-West. You know, the brand new international terminal that US is paying for most of, and where US doesn't have enough gates as it is. 🙄
What’s so frustrating about this is PHL's airfield layout can not accommodate all these aircraft operations. The only thing this is going to do is make PHL an ever worse congested airport than it is right now. This is the very reason why it is virtually impossible for US Airways to reduce its PHL hub to a more manageable operation. You begin to wonder if PHL should be a slot controlled airport.
Actually according to the local paper here in Philly this morning, British Airways is moving to A-West and Delta is moving into A-East with American.
