SWA to Lease MORE GATES in PHL

Southwest had internally started a new campaign.

It is called the "I.M.P." program. It is aimed directly
at US Airways in PHX, LAS, PHL, PIT and soon CLT.

What does I.M.P. stand for?

Insert for Maximum Penetration.

Its business, not personal.

And you'll note that WN will be getting DL's gates in E.

That's because the freaking city is looking to put DL in A-West. You know, the brand new international terminal that US is paying for most of, and where US doesn't have enough gates as it is. 🙄

What’s so frustrating about this is PHL's airfield layout can not accommodate all these aircraft operations. The only thing this is going to do is make PHL an ever worse congested airport than it is right now. This is the very reason why it is virtually impossible for US Airways to reduce its PHL hub to a more manageable operation. You begin to wonder if PHL should be a slot controlled airport.

just more proof that there still trying to put US Airways under. If they werent they would be invading CVG ATL DTW or MSP???????????

I can't speak for all US/East employees, but I, for one, have just about had it up to my ailerons with WN.

First USAir, back in 1991, vacates 55% Market share in California and hands it to WN. Then, the Battle for Baltimore a few years later. We know how that went.

Then MHT, PVD, PHL, and ultimately PIT. Anyone see a pattern here?

I just hope the New USAirways under the "leadership" of Doug Parker can finally hold off WN for a change. When a WN Captain makes almost $50 more per hour for flying a similar aircraft, when all other crafts at WN earn more, it's just another huge slap in the face that we can't compete. Especially after all the employees of U/East sacrificed to get to this merger.

How about going on the offensive for a change? Send a few EMB-170's to Love Field to let 'em know we are still in the game. Or how about getting back in the intra-California mix. WN has no non-stop competition from SAN to RNO or SMF. Let's take the battle to them for once.

We can't stop this Big Orange Gorilla. Their vaunted fuel hedges won't last forever.

One accurate statement made by Just Call Me Dave Siegel was "Southwest is coming to Philly to kill us." We were on our knees then but we got up to fight another day. Got some money and some moxie now. Let's Roll.

SpinDoc replies:
Why DON'T we just give them PHL. It's a POS airport anyway, and the cost of operating there with delays and poor quality workers far outweighs the "purported" higher revenues. Make PHL a US International hub with a rationalized schedule timed to meet the International schedule. The heck with trying to make it a fully operational hub.

How about going on the offensive for a change?

SpinDoc replies:
Yes. Why not match them one for one EMB-170's to their B737's on the routes they fly from PIT, PHL, and the rest, and eat their lunch with lower costs? And while we're at it, we could rebuild PIT as a domestic connecting hub.
The operational costs in PIT are MUCH lower than PHL.

Their vaunted fuel hedges won't last forever.

SpinDoc replies:
Exactly. Their hedges will run out before they kill US or any other competitor, and then we'll see just how difficult it will be for them to compete on a level playing field.

SpinDoc comments:
I'll be so glad when I'm finally away from this crazy mixed up industry in early 2006. It's just not a good industry to work in anymore.

You have to remember PHL generates more revenue for US then any other city.

Dont think the soon to be departed 170's can make PHL or PIT to PHX or LAS.

Actually according to the local paper here in Philly this morning, British Airways is moving to A-West and Delta is moving into A-East with American.

i wonder how long it will be before they start hurting financially and the fuel hedge starts hurting?

Come on, you should know better. When US adds flights and causes congestion, it's US's fault. When WN adds flights and causes congestion, they still make it out to be US's fault. Follow? 🙄

That's better than I heard, but it's still this airport giving the nice facilities to everyone except its biggest tenant. US was using gates in A-East this summer as it is because carriers like Frontier are in A-West.

Ringmaruf,
In case you didn't know. Frontier only has 2x319 to Denver. Their gate is shared with US, USA3000, AF, and AA. AA uses it as an extra spot to park RON a/c when needed.

F9's presence is hardly killing US.
