Tariffs

The details were that for Coffee....the tariffs on the two largest importers of cofffee are still in effect - 50% on Brazil (where we get most of our coffee) and 20% on Colombia, the second largest importer of coffee and our largest importer of cocaine.

Colombia 🇨🇴

Colombia's recent negotiations with the United States have been strained, marked by escalating tensions between Presidents Trump and Petro over drug trafficking, military aid, and U.S. military actions in the Caribbean. A major point of contention is the U.S. military's role, with Colombia protesting recent strikes on boats and disputing the U.S.'s claims about drug trafficking, as detailed in a November 13, 2025, Bloomberg.com article. Tensions have been amplified by U.S. actions such as decertifying Colombia as cooperating to fight drug trafficking and revoking President Petro's visa.

The two countries have a history of cooperation, but the recent conflict has overshadowed previous agreements and has resulted in significant cuts to U.S. aid to Colombia. The relationship has deteriorated over issues such as the U.S. military strikes on suspected drug traffickers in the Caribbean, which Colombia argues have killed innocent fishermen.

The US-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement has been impacted by these tensions, with the US government threatening tariffs and ending aid to Colombia. While the agreement aimed to eliminate tariffs and promote economic growth, the recent tensions have led to a suspension of aid and a threat of tariffs.

This recent conflict has also affected negotiations between the two countries regarding drug trafficking. Colombia has taken a stance against US efforts to combat drug trafficking, arguing for alternative approaches that prioritize peace and stability. However, the two countries have not reached a consensus on these issues and may face significant challenges in resolving them.
