Markets figured out what TACO means months ago.
No matter who blinked, the truth is that AMericans will pay more for things. Even things we get from countries we have a trade surplus with and they didn't previously tariff our goods. What a brilliant idea.TACO made Carney blink.......TACO meets CACO.
I am not an economist but I heard that tariffs are not just about trade but also to strengthen our dollar. I don't know how that works but it sounds like a good idea.No matter who blinked, the truth is that AMericans will pay more for things. Most have negotiated free trade agreements, one which was Canada. Canada severely restricts US goods and services. No matter who blinked, the truth is that AMericans will pay more for things. He wasn't permitted to go there before, bone spurs, you know. Now Trump wants to go to Nam.
This might have flown under the MAGA radar, but there was this agreement in place with Mexico and Canada called the 'US Mexico Canada Trade Agreement" that went into effect in July 2020. It was negotiated by the greatest negotiator ever to have breathed the air of this earth, and was hailed by one Donald J Trump as "the greatest trade deal ever". That agreement addressed tariffs. While Trump was not re-elected in 2020, the Biden administration did not touch the agreement Trump negotiated. But to listen to 2025 Trump, Canada is screwing us over with this "terrible trade deal".Most have negotiated free trade agreements, one which was Canada. I don't know about that either, but in searches about that, the value of the dollar is dropping, due in large part to the uncertainty over tariffs. This "slap a tariff on everybody" approach wasn't the way to do it. We assessed at least a 10% tariff on countries where we had a trade surplus and who did not tariff our goods. This reminds me of Trump's handling of the tariff. The mom on the right is dealing with China and the mom on the left is dealing with countries like SingaporeI am not an economist but I heard that tariffs are not just about trade but also to strengthen our dollar.
