I'm reading a book that was written before 2020 about how Republicans gave up governing and they are discussed Trump's trade plans in his first administration. He blew up the Trans Pacific Partnership, then did nothing, then bitched when the other countries made deals among themselves that excluded the US. Peter Navarro is his "tariff guru" and in this book HE is quoted as saying "My function, really, as an economist, is to provide the underlying (lying being the operative part of that) analytics that confirm Trump's intuition."

Not PROVE Trump's theory, but to CONFIRM his FEELINGS. This is why he cited HIMSELF using the name Ron Varo (anagram of Navarro). Trumpers can't see that to succeed in the Trump white house, you must agree to everything he thinks, says or proposes, regardless of any facts.
