Ok, Ok...before everyone starts grumbling at me, this is the only link I have available. The FT article says a bit more than the other articles. In summary US good, DL bad.
 
Anything about IAG and are there any more compelling points regarding US/AA that we haven't read elsewhere?
 
This is what Wille Walsh had to say ..

In February, Willie Walsh, IAG chief executive, said Delta was likely to struggle to secure regulatory clearance to combine with American, because the merged entity would be so large.
However, a merger between American and US Airways, the fifth-largest US airline, would be “potentially a positive development”, Mr Walsh said. Such a combination would have a better chance of obtaining regulatory clearance than one involving Delta.
US Airways is a member of the Star global airline alliance, and if it did merge with American, some people close to the situation said the combined entity would probably choose to be a OneWorld member.
 
Strictly from an alliance perspective one would almost think US leaving Star for Oneworld is a given seeing how AA is a founding member and US would go from red headed stepchild to big dog on the yard virtually overnight.

You know damn well BA isn't going to take a backseat in another alliance.
 
US seems to be happy to stay in the Star alliance. I always thought that if AA and US where planning something US coming
to ONEWORLD would have been the first indication of a possible arrangement later. So far there is not even rumors of US
joining ONEWORLD.

I'm not sure if US meets oneworld's standards for entry. Nor are they necessary -- unlike Star and Skyteam, they've limited the overlaps between members where possible.
 
Once again, there are those who want to try and making turning AA around into a process to save US.

If BA is committed to preserving its relationship with AA, why would they feel a need to bail US out in the process?

We are to believe that "saving AA" would include not only an investment by BA but also one by TPG AND a merger or addition of US to the JV?
And of course each of those players will want to remake AA in their own image, in addition to what AA thinks it needs to do itself. The poor AAirline will be so confused from all the orders it receives from so many quarters it will melt down in mere moments.

Could we think of any additional parties we could throw in that might work to sink the whole deal?
