BUt, as the title of this/my thread suggests,.....It's Forest Whitaker, and his masterful performance. We all sometimes fail to remember how long, and how Many very good pictures F W has been in. He already won an Oscar, and in most cases, is very likeable in his movies. Rarely do I see him playing 'victim roles' ! ! ! I put him in the same group of black actors who are likeable, like say Denzel, or Morgan Freeman.
Face it, the dude has got his acting shitt together ! Whether on this board, or not,......anyone painting FW with the OW brush, is doing Mr. Whitaker and this Very good movie, a theatrical Injustice .
I mean,.....DIRTY... D I C K ..Cheney could be in this film, and " I / ME " would Still go and see it !

Leave the man alone , FW was better in 1941.

CERTAINLY....NOT a surprise that a......IN DENIAL..F'n Moron like YOU would make a comment like that.

I now have seen the Movie, and as others have said, F W IS a great actor who has made a LOT of great Films. His Performance (KEY word PERFORMANCE) of what is certainly a racial based movie, was his BEST effort ever, bar none, And if he isn't awarded B/A Oscar, well then the Whole Academy must have been PAID OFF in favor of whoever does 'win'. With 5 mere months to go before the Oscar 'cut off' in mid January, I can realistically think of no already released 'flic that stands waay out in my memory where any B / A performance will top what I just saw. In addition, as one guy who searches movie trailers for movies 'to be' released in say the next 6 months, NOTHING even comes close. It was very OBVIOUS last year that Daniel-Day Lewis's portrayal of Lincoln was a Sure Winner. THIS is a 'Mirror' (type) situation.

ANYONE who believes that Lincoln, MLK or JFK were NOT KILLED because because of trying to bring fairness and justice to African Americans in this country,......is (well) SMOKING Crack !
People like the 2 CSers who killed the 89 year old guy in Spokane WA., or Angela Davis, Huey Newton....hey you all remember the list,.........deserved "SH!T" !

I consider you a friend, but I think you are painting with a rather broad brush here. I was born and raised in the south. My father and his family were from the south (North Carolina and Virginia). My mom was a “yankee” from Ohio. I can tell you that THIS child of the south was not raised with prejudice. If I dared use a certain derogatory word towards another race, I would have had my ass whipped with a leather belt. From my father OR my grandfather. I know you've been careful to use the word “majority” when describing racism in the south, but I really only recall a very few of my friends (born late 50's) holding those beliefs.

As a matter of fact, there was a great story by a guy named “Lewis Grizzard”, an incredibly funny columnist for the Atlanta Journal Constitution who wrote many books. If you want a great laugh, read any of them. One story dealt with when he took a job in Chicago – he was in a cab and the black driver asked where he was from. “Atlanta” was the reply. The driver said “I'm from Atlanta”...and Grizzard braced himself for the civil rights lecture. To his surprise, the driver said “I miss it”. He went on to explain that in the south, a black man KNEW where he wasn't allowed. In Chicago they didn't. And they'd get their ass whipped just for being there.

You know, I recall a while back in NYC where a black kid was beaten by a group of white kids...just for being black. Same thing in Boston.

Sorry my friend, but the South doesn't hold the title of the only racist place in the US. In fact, I'd venture guess that there are many places NORTH of the Mason Dixon line that are as bad – if not worse – than central Alabama.

Thankfully, you know that I usually speak in "generalities", but History does Not (as you well know)..Lie. The Paula Dean's are still very much alive down there ! It has ALWAYS amazed me, and will till my last day,....how a WHITE Pastor in the deep south.(And we're NOT talking an Isolated case here) could preach the Gospel to his ALL WHITE(mostly) Baptist congregation,....and as soon as the Sun went Down,........the HOOD went ON !
