Price increases will be out of the question, so the government will impose healthcare rationing, denying the older and sicker among us the care they need and even barring them from paying for it themselves. (Rationing based on income and price will be seen as immoral.)

So Obama’s name will be mud by 2012 and probably by 2010 as well. And the Republican Party will make big gains and regain much of its lost power.

Change you're gonna believe in.....

dell,

Interesting topic("here comes Socialism")

I'm guessing that a zillion unemployed hard working folks must have their snouts "in the Trough"(getting their unemployment checks) ??????

I could live with being like Germany. I have first hand experience there as opposed to the others. Broke my elbow while in Germany a while back. Two weeks in a semi-private room, surgery to put a plate and several screws, PT for 2 weeks, IV antibiotics the bill was $4k. Don't have to worry about being homeless, Autobahn rocks. Public transportation rocks even more.

Aside from that, just a lot of scare mongering from the corporations who stand to get kicked off the gravy train. By the way, when did the UK, De, and FR become cesspools of abject poverty, starvation and death? Dick Moriss cracks me up. He should do stand up.

Hey, it’s the dawn of a new age! That new age includes government sanctioned racism: VIDEO LINK

I am concerned, as I’m sure many of you are, that these jobs not simply go to high-skilled people who are already professionals or to white male construction workers. … I have nothing against white male construction workers. I’m just saying that there are a lot of other people who have needs as well. … Criteria can be set so that the money does go to others, the long term unemployed minorities, women, people who are not necessarily construction workers or high-skilled professionals.

Wow, he wants everyone to get a shot at the jobs. You're right. That's a horrible idea. We have had gov sanction racism for over 200 years and you are just now getting upset about it?

I spent a significant amount of time in Munich in 2000. While I was there, I saw numerous homeless people (though not as substantial as my hometown: Chicago). Have things changed since then? I don't think that Germany is known for solving the "homeless" problem. But please correct me if I am wrong, Cosworth, as my information is largely anecdotal and dated.

I will have to look. I might be wrong but from what I recall hearing/reading it was not as bad as here. I do know there are numerous programs to help folks out.

I know first hand about the medical system and the treatment I got rocked. The public transportation is decades beyond what we don't have in a majority of this country. Yes the taxes are sky high compared to what we have here but they get something for their money, or at least a lot more than what we get for ours.

Ever take a gander at the distance between major cities in Europe versus the USA?

I can drive from Oostend, BE on the north sea at 8AM and be in Luxembourg City before lunch.

That is true enough but it is a matter of scale. Had we been developing transportation we could have bullet trains linking large cities and subways and buses with in the cities. Even with out bullet trains, a majority of our transportation needs reside in the city in which we live.

I can go to NYC, DC, Seattle or any number of other cities and leave my car at home. I live in DFW and cannot get from my house to the Airport which is 5 miles away with out private transportation. Why is it we can do that in some cites but not others? The distance issue does not address the fact we have cities with excellent transportation. It only address the fact that we live on a large continent and may not be able to link them all.

I spent some time in Germany back in the 90's. Very beuatiful country, efficent public transportation system. From what I have read a good health care system, it's not free despite what some people think. Just remember one thing. If you live in Germany and decide to move you have to register with the local poletzi. Can you imagine in they tried to implement that in the US?

Nothing is free anywhere. The German pay for it up front with very high taxes. Seems from my perspective that they seem to get a better return on their taxes than we do.

Not everything that they do would translate to the US. he registration issue obviously would not but I do not see a need for that either. I can see how it might be beneficial but there is too much mistrust and to much abuse of power by government.

Health care is definitely not free but very reasonable. $4k for a 2 week stay in a hospital including surgery is a pretty good deal compared to what it would cost here in the states.

Funny, I have not heard of people dieing on the streets due to lack of care. Same thing with the drug scare a few years back. The FDA was trying to convince the US that it was not safe to buy drugs from Canada as if people were dropping like flys due to unsafe drugs in Canada.

As far as cost is concerned. Who cares how good the care is if you can't afford it? Given the unemployment rates right now, there are a lot of folks who do not have access to the 'best health care in the world'.

Is your friend sure that it had nothing to do with the odds of getting a viable donor? I find it hard to believe that Canada would have viable livers and let them spoil. Stands to reason if CA has a smaller population there would be less of a likely hood of a match.

Government health care? Have you ever tried to call the IRS about anything? How about Social Security? Anyone who advocates government run health care needs to go spend a day at the local Motor Vehicle Admin. or hang out at a walk in IRS office.
I had a good friend who lived in Canada who was sent home to die because she was too old and did not fit the scale for treatment. She went home that morning and died in her kitchen at lunchtime with a heart condition that could have been treated with surgery. "Free" health care is great if you fall in the range where treatment and life expectancy are at a good ratio.

Oddly enough the Germans got a pretty good deal from our tax dollars. During the Cold War they were spared having to spend billions of dollars on defense because we were footing most of the bill. They also did not have to spend billions on carrier battle groups that made certain countries think twice about interupting the flow of oil and commerce on the worlds oceans. Wonder if they would have had the same generous benefits if they had to pay for all that equipment and manpower?
