The Parker Prescription

He is a breath of fresh air and certainly knows his stuff. However (not to be intentionally negative) the business plan is the same one that US was trying to 'transform' itself with: full-service airline but with rational/low fares and low-costs. US never got the non-employee wages costs down and never lower fares across the board. I expect the HP fare structure to become systemwide, I don't think HP will say that they are going to do that and then not do it. But can Parker get the non-employee costs down? We'll see.

Well nobody believed it would work for HP three years ago when they first tried it either. They were one step away from death and cost were sky high.

In every conversation I and the other members of Ffocus had with US management encouraged them to emulate the HP plan. (How long have certain members of this forum been talking about rational fares, i.e Art for one) It was bold and decisive and required thinking outside the box....... and here we are three years later and guess who bought who?

Time will tell

I don't disagree, but changing the fare structure was the easiest part of emulating the HP plan. Why did US never do it except in LCC competitive markets? You can find that answer out better than I can, unless you're still in the doghouse.

If Parker can lead the same turnaround on US that he performed on HP, the airline will be force.

Oh I think it is a safe bet that I’m a permanent member of the CCY dog house. 😀

You know the exciting part of this is the new beginning and challenges that lay ahead. I am most grateful that the US employees get a new chance and with a management team that seems to value the front line employees, I think US will once again become a great place to work.

It will also be interesting to watch and see if the plan we wanted in place will in fact work. As I told a reporter yesterday, I am excited and I am willing to support it with the new HP management team in place.

My heart felt wish is the best for you all.

WH,

We are definitely still in the dog house. I am excited about this merger. I have heard great things about Mr. Parker, and combining a management team that knows what they're doing with RATIONALIZED fares and the BEST employees in the industry will create an airline which will be a force to be reckoned with!!!!

I hope we have the opportunity to contribute to the future success of the new US Airways, and I would like to send best wishes to all involved...especially to my good friends at US. I hope this means security and happiness for you all, because believe me you deserve it.

My best to you all....

Well, it all sounds good. But what Mr. Parker needs to do is clean house and
bring in others that actually WANT TO RUN THE AIRLINE.
Art is right, fare restructuring is only part of it. Getting rid of the dead weight
up top is mandatory for our long term survival.

I work with a number of EX HP employees and everyone of them said that working for AWA was the worst expierence of thier life. They all said that the pay was terrible and the working conditions were worst.

Tug Slug,

That depends on when they worked there. Most people I have heard from that are there now are pretty happy.

There are always going to be malcontents everywhere.

Let's give this a chance folks shall we?

My best to you all.

Art,
Two of my coworkers wives work in the res center in Tempe both have been there for less than two years both are on days with weekends off that should give you an idea of how high the turn over rate is there, you tell me why do they go thru so many people? One would think if both the pay and working conditions were half way descent they wouldnt have such a high turnover rate. I asked them both how their wives felt about working for AWA and they both said they hate it and are planning on quitting in the near future.

I work with at least a dozen ex AWA employees out of those 12 2 were in management they all told me the same thing that working for HP was the worst experience of their life in terms of their professional career.

Im not trying to rain on anyone's parade here I hope things turn out for the best for everyone. Personally I think this merger is going to work, sure it may have some problems at first but in the long run I believe the NEW US Airways will be a force to be reckoned with in the airline industry.

I think it is rare for people to talk nice about their previous employer regardless of their reason for leaving. Its just natural. As far as call center turnover...if they are around 10-15% a year that is just about average. The lowest I've seen is a center here in OKC that is down around 2-3%...and their pay and benefits are among the worst of the 50+ centers in this town - but the environment is fun.

We'll just have to see what Parker can do. I'll be more than willing to trade in my medallion account and loyalty to Fort Widget should they turn this thing around. Heck I'll probably throw some money back in to the new stock - I, along with everyone, was blown away in Bk1 and didn't feel like investing again until things were stable. 🙂
