Hi.

You probably saw my thread about "Egging protestors on mill" which was not meant to be serious. I figured other people here could take a joke, but maybe we're not ready for that yet.

I want to apologize to everyone, all coworkers, FFers, etc that have read that and been offended by it. It is not who I am as a person or would I condone anyone else doing what I said. It was just a post of disgust in the way things are going.

I feel alone here. It's probably both apparent in my posts and the responses to my posts. No matter where I post here, there are certain people who have made it clear they don't like me posting. I have, because of that, probaby become offensive. One, my comment about Tempe police, and the fact they carry guns. It was a fact.. not really directed at anyone, but they do! And they speed here too. It's amazing.

The fact that I have similar problems as everyone else here should not make me a target, maybe I was whining myself back in October/November about my life situation, maybe it was the wrong place to vent.. and thankfully my caring co-workers & even management gave me resources to seek help. Maybe I do not fly as often, working for an airline. Also, I do not rip customers off. They do their research (most of the time) before calling me, and I tell them about their destination. Not through brochures, but through knowledge I have gained from the numerous vendor visits in addition to customer reviews and complaints. I'm brutally honest with customers, and YES, I laugh at them when they lodge a complaint about the condition of Riviera in Las Vegas. (They complain because they wanted the cheapest property we carry.. they got it.)

Yes, the company has problems. They probably should be doing more over in Philly to clear up the major issues. They are taking a step in the right direction by hiring more staff in Charlotte.

What will protesting accomplish? What will the outcome be? I'm not trying to say things are perfect. But why is the reaction to the problems in the company to protest?

Fly,

The answer is, "Nobody Knows". But, a protest with the associated press coverage sends a message to customers and vendors that things aren't very rosy at US. In addition, the agents in PHX have been getting screwed for quite some time now. They have support from those of us out East who know what they put up with and have been down the same road.

It's a healthy expression of discontent. If you don't agree, don't participate. If you do agree, support them, even if it's tacit approval.

The board is about exchange of ideas. I even respect those posters who I personally find vile by not starting flame wars with them. They can post what they like, just like you and I. We aren't going to learn anything about what's going on unless we ask questions and make statements. Your participation on the board is just as important as anyone else's.

Of course, this doesn't apply to KingLobJaw, because he's a wee baby and doesn't have the life experience to understand that crisis and handship is part of the mix. (Sorry, KLJ! I couldn't resist the pot shot) 😛

Take a break this afternoon, Fly, and have lunch outside. Maybe you'll make some interesting observations and report back to us this evening.

Your comments were heartfelt but your last paragraph graphically describes that you (and likely the rest of the SandCastle) completely misunderstand.

This company only responds to bad press. Their actions are the result of a small corporation mentality. They are afraid of "big". They are afraid they can no longer micromanage, a meme the old USAir proved time and again, yet failed to understand, also.

Instead of viewing end-user employees as managers in their own right like SWA, the executive only feels comfortable, for instance, sending the top pilot/manager cruising an airport concourse on an electro-cart, looking for pilots not wearing hats. Amazing.

The only problem "they" see are nails because all they have are hammers. That may have worked for a small carrier. The executives should be implementing a laundry list of tools for the managers and seeing that they learn how to use those tools. Instead, we see same 'ol, same 'ol.

I would say that USAirways is further behind than when the merger was first announced, with missteps and gross errors compounding.

Time to step back, take an audit to find out where USAirways is, then set a bold direction and take that first step forward.

What good will it do to protest and what will the outcome be? Well maybe nothing. The point is we (all employee groups) are NOT being heard. This managment tries it's hardest to prove a rosie picture when we out in the field know damn well it's a total mess. Take the 3/22 crew news session in CLT. It should NEVER had got that far but it did. The company is so out of touch with its employees. Look at the meltdown over the cutover/storm. These employees have been complaining and crying out for the company to do something. NOTHING gets done. Ok, granted they have some new agents in the works for CLT. Ask yourself why though. Just because it was a good idea or they discovered that there was a problem? This company is going to self implode if they do not start to listen. I have seen the disgust in my coworkers and other groups around the system. NOBODY cares anymore. Your NOT PAID to care. Hey, if management doesn't care or find it a problem why should the individual employee? It is manifesting and spreading like wildfire around this company. If picketing and protesting needs to be done to get them to listen through bad publicity then so be it. Mission accomplished.

TRAVELPRO72,I dont know what it will accomplish either but I'm glad they are trying. We have got to try imo. The rest of your post right on at least from where I am. No one cares any more. We have alot of folks out on medical because of this stuff. Working conditions, not going there but you know & our management doesn;t care. Better quit now.

First, ussnark, you misunderstood my questions. They were not a jab at the protesters, I just want to know in all honesty why the protest and what the targeted outcome desired is. It doesn't make me any less of a person to ask questions, I want to understand what it is the protest is for. (I have my ideas, like I said, this company is far from perfect.)

I'm just.. new.. to the whole union thing. I joined the company as non-union and became unionized. I, myself, have seen changes that to be honest, disturb me. They butchered sick time (1/2 pay first week of sick time) and yet, still count an entire day as one occurance.

Prince of PAWOBs.. thank you. Like I posted in another thread before I posted here, I hope the protest brings positive response and the company changes for the better.

It's always good to communicate in a non-violent, peaceful way.. and I'm glad that we have the freedom to do so.

-------------------

coachrowsey.. I will support the protest. I hope it brings positive change in the company. I don't know if I'll make it out today or not.

Travelpro72, thank you for your comments and answers to my questions.

You do know that the street in front of HQ is closed today, right? 🙄

yes , i saw that when i was driving yesterday , but HQ sits on three streets so it's really not a huge problem . In fact it's better because it bottlenecks traffic .

Also half of 3rd is closed too for light rail construction. Ironman setup has closed Rio Salado parkway. I wonder if this will affect the exposure for better or worse.

When is it suppose to start? or am I looking in the right place?

Fly,

I don't think I did ignored your questions.

(1) The protest is to take the negotiation public, usually because the members feel they are being ignored.

(2) Targeted outcome. Acknowledgement in some manner.

I am not familiar with the issues but, considering the labor-hostile attitude of many arbitrators/judges I would presume their lawyers have "done due diligence" before advising this protest.

No, it's part of the $2bil waste program they are spending here in Arizona for a public transit system no one will use. Instead of bettering our roads, they spend it on the railway that doesn't go very far. From Camelback in Central phoenix, through the airport, through tempe, through mesa.. Eventually adding a glendale segment.

Dougie has nothing to do with it, unforunately. Wish we could blame all the misspending on him, but it ain't so!

Fly4Free, I think he meant so Dougie doesn't have to get behind the wheel of a car....
