The Republic Agreement

In view of the seemingly sweet deal that Republic/Chautauqua is getting on a bunch of new airplanes and landing slots at DCA and LGA, why wouldn't somebody else such as Mesa or Eastcoast or whoever step in and pay a little more for the same package? This is all about what's best for the Creditors isn't it? :huh:

Is there anybody else in the game for cheap airplanes and landing slots?

Republic was in a unique position. As far as I know, they're the only other carrier in the country that has an operating certificate for the Emb-170, which allows them and only them to take the planes and put them immediately to work.

CHQ is the only other operator of E170s in North America. They are the second largest operator in the world with 13 aircraft. The largest E170 operator in the world is US Airways wth 28.

As long as you have an Operating Certificate, it's no huge deal to add a type of aircraft. MDA has a training program, ops manual, flight crews, etc.

While Republic is indeed operating the type, any other carrier could acquire the entire operation and get it up and running in a short space of time on their certificate.

The key of course is having an Operating Certificate on which to add the type since the MDA operation is on the US Airways Certificate.

It would be a cheap and effective way for airlines such as ExpressJet to get a turn-key 70-Seat operation, with the added bonus of pulling the 70 Seat rug from under US Airways and perhaps forcing Chapter 7. 😛h34r:
