Do you think if US Airways would have liquidated it would have prevented current industry events?

Look at history. Since 1978 this process has been playing out. Along the way the industry has lost many of its mainstay players, in fact the pioneers of the industry. Pan Am and TWA were once the great domestic/international airlines...IN THE WORLD! Then there is was Braniff...and the list goes on.

They went away; did this solve the issues that we face today? NO!

Lorenzo is alive and well in the industry, giving birth to his offsprings as they populate the planet.

PitBull you are correct,

And CAL is currently an industry sweetheart. I remember when they went on strike and I was flying turbo-props for a commuter airline. I knew many who crossed the picketline while licking their chops!

Today, AirTran, JetBlue, Spirit and others have created a home for many who are hungry and want their place in the airline industry. Now we see UAL, DAL, & NWA doing battle through the courts with their groups...if I were in the 3000 pilots at DAL or 1500 at NWA I would be looking for alternatives as they will slash those fleets and whack the headcount as we have.

You were right on another thread, we all need to fasten our seatbelts, be looking at our options, and be ready for more changes in the industry.

I predict the LCC will not be able to compete with the BK model.

It is over for them to, and they will need to jump in the race to the bottom with the Legacies or cease to exist like the demise of People's Express.

You want to compete with the Coca Cola Companies ;you need to get rid of your lemonaid stand.

are you referring to WN as a lemonade stand? The largest domestic carrier? LOL

Roach: United's plan to emerge 'unrealistic'

Michael Roach, principal at airline consulting firm Roach & Sbarra and one of the founders of America West, tells Jim Jelter that legacy carriers would get 'breathing room' if one was to go away. Roach also says United's plan to emerge from bankruptcy is unrealistic.

People Express did not file Ch 11 or go out of business per se; they were bought and merged into Continental along with NY Air and Frontier. In fact the former People Express employees who stayed are doing quite nicely (for now) at Continental compared to US Airways.

Sad part was that Piedmont was Kicking PE's Butt, but now the shoe is on the other foot. Looks like its about about QUALITY management. Something U has NEVER had.

On CNN this morning they said over 100 airlines have failed since deregulation. There was comparison to legacy or startup. It was the overall total they were talking about and the fact that congress deregulated the industry creating part of the problem, and that now they need to do something to fix the problem deregulation caused. I'm not sure what the remedy is supposed to be.

RE-regulate!

There's a name for a system where the government regulates the economy.

It's called fascism.

The airlines never should have been regulated in the first place. Going back is not the answer.
