Things you think will happen in BK court

Please stop fantasizing about another merger. You would think all your fingers would be numb from all the posts about the impending US United or Delta or NWA and now AMR. Spare us all the "US family"crap, no one deserves to part of that dysfunctional nightmare. It seems as though every thread is about a merger or the latest pilot pissing contest.

FAMikey, you seem to forget most always, that it is your company [AA] that is BANKRUPT... You will not have the choice if USAIRWAYS wants to buy you. The only thing that is dysfunctional, is your posts, and of course AA [which is why.. btw.. they are bankrupt] ... AA is in a VERY VERY different position, than its peers were in BK.. The situation is very different, and USAIRWAYS could very well buy you, and you will not have a say. I am sure by your posts, that you still think you are the "Glorious Airline" that you make yourself out to be, but nothing could be further from the truth. You are in a very weak position right now, otherwise, your management team would not have filed for BK this morning. It was not USAIRWAYS that filed BK this morning, it was your airline, AA.. You need to meet reality, because your world is very different from the real world that is going on around you.. You have no choice in the matter, get used to it.

Great forward thinking by the no voters, you cost us all $9k in cash alone. Working weekends is going to be the least of TUL's worries.

I'm looking forward to hearing from Bob how we are negotiating from a upper hand position.
TUL working weekends, at least on Hangar 1D.

We need to be just like other carriers. We cannot continue do do our own in house maintenance. OH must go. If we keep Tulsa we are fools.

AMR has a fairly short period to devise a new business plan so changes will happen very quickly. There will also likely be alot of incentive on AA's part to cut deeply to ensure they have a viable plan.

Fasten your seatbelts.
Spot on WT.

I think most here have no idea how deep these cuts will be. They also face a public who has no sympathy for any of them. AA is in a perfect position to make some supersize cuts and "right size" the airline on the backs of the workforce.

The phrase be careful what you wish for comes to mind.

Welcome to the world of the foolish, the TWU is not going to do you any favors on the line as long as TUL holds the membership. So good luck. I will go ahead and say it. If we could have just drop the other groups in the union maybe we could have survived. Is that more along the lines for you line mechanics? AMFA, AMP or the Teamsters etc.??? just get rid of TUL.

here is the website for AMR's restructuring.. it is worth bookmarking and checking back on a regular basis.

it appears so far all of the motions are routine first day bankruptcy motions.

You will no longer be a part of the middle class. If your job is outsoursed you may qualifie for food stamps. IF not now when and if you retire you will be elegable for them. Our country's future looks bleak.

They are shitting beer and hotdogs ( on our dime) while handing out Chinese made pens and bottle openers!!!!!! At AFW we never even see any union reps as they our to busy making deals with the base MGR to keep their own employed !!!! Shame!!!!! Friggin TWU needs to be eleminated!!!

That's exactly what went through my mind when I saw the headlines.
ANY change in manpower and I'm dead meat-out the gate. It's a foregone conclusion in my mind.

This is the first BK ride for a lot of AA employees. It'll get ruthless. And life as they know it at AA will change. IF they survive the lay-offs. I'm certain maintenance will get a pretty good haircut.

I got to come home for a little while I guess... 😉

based on AA's annual report issued earlier this year, of AA's "older generation" models, approx 60% of the M80 fleet is leased, approx 1/3 each of the 757s and 763ERs are leased as well as most of the 762s. This document says none of the 772s are leased and all of American Eagle's aircraft are owned as well. Approx 1/2 of the 738s are leased. AA has leased A300s, a few F100s, and some M80s in storage.
It will be quite easy to get rid of leased aircraft in the next few months but it might be far more difficult to get rid of owned aircraft that have little value. Although it is possible to write them off, creditors will be reluctant to allow huge writedowns of assets that are currently being used not only as collateral but also which constitute part of the assets of the company.
.
There are analysts who are saying that the Airbus and Boeing deals are not as safe as some might argue, particularly because of the huge amount of debt they will place on the company during its reorganization. I cannot argue that point one way or the other but those opinions should be considered. If AA is unable to obtain anywhere near as many aircraft order as they think they will, their ability to reduce costs will be significantly changed - or the airline will have to be a lot smaller than they think.
.
But again, there are still more than 150 M80s and 757s that are owned and will likely be with AA coming out the otherside of BK.
